Merga missed out on the bronze because he took his shot at the gold and hung with Gharib and Wanjiru for over 20 miles in the heat. He deserves a lot of respect, as that was a damn fine marathon under those conditions.

The point is he didn't win the f***ing bronze, I don't care if he lost it in the last 10 meters he didn't f***ing win it. Why are some people on here so stupid? I bet you make the same f***ing excuse for Pre.
where is that so called training video where he ran 4:18 for the first mile of an 8 at, wasn't it supposed to come out last Monday.
talk about over sell under deliver
I can see it now. Ryan will be with the lead group of about
10 as they make the right hand turn past the fire station.
It is here where Ryan will be feeling really good and make his move through the newton hills. The lead pack will let him go, thinking he will blow up..Ryan Hall will not come back. He will go on to win the 113th running of the Boston Marathon. First American male winner since Greg Meyer's 1983 victory.
You heard it here first, ryan hall says he is in 2:03 shape relative to beijing training if you get his drift.
Lets go Brian Sell! I know this thread is about Hall, but after watching that video from the trials I remember how awesome Sell is. Hopefully Ryan will win and Brian will be top 5.
Hall breaks away between mile 12.5 and 14, passes the half in 1:02:57. Hall wins in 2:07:10. If this comes to fruition I want a f***ing pat on the back or some bs.
Hall won't only win he'll run under 2:08. He's dominate on the downhills, his form is perfect on them.

You missed the point. HE NEEDS TO RUN WITH THE LEADERS. That means if the leaders go out at 62 minutes he MUST go with them. If that is too fast, then he is in trouble because he does not have the ability to come from behind.
I think you're not in touch with the new reality of marathoning. (Which didn't start last sunday, but at the olympics btw, brojos) Someone on that start line will not/hardly fade if halfway is reached in 62 minutes (let's say 63 for a harder course like Boston).
If you want to be in with a shot of winning, you've got to be with the leading pack at halfway as there is no way everyone is going to come back to you.
Everyone who wants to win needs to run with the leaders.
no way does the pack let him go that late in the race. the only way he breaks away is if he makes his move before the half and somehow doesn't get rolled up by Cheruiyot when he makes his move. Like I said before, Ryan will need to run a new course record to win if Cheruiyot is in shape.

I actually know this first-hand, as I raced against him a couple times in high school. I kept up with him through the first mile of a cross-country course one time (yeah, I was kinda fast, but this was before he was Ryan Hall). The one-mile mark was at the top of a hill after which there was a long, steep downhill, probably about 600 meters or so. He just took off on the downhill at this unbelievable pace and opened up a huge gap on me. I was completely shocked. I couldn\'t physically run downhill that fast without falling on my face. He was leaping down that hill like a goddamn gazelle or something.
Ia m runner in New York who did Boston last year. I train on the 2007 OT marathon course all the time. Those hills are wwwwwaaaaaaayyy harder a screw up rythym and pace way more than the heartbreak hills. Granted the pace will be faster going out.... but Hall seems to like that. RC took the lead when it got slow last year and he may do it again. Hall will sit and tackle Heartbreak Hill. RC is a pro's pro though so I would put money on both of them to do well. I also wouldn't count out Merga to set the pace... or to win. And don't forget about SELL doesn't have the raw speed but he is an olympian and an excellent RACER.

Awesome! I'm excited for Monday.
The boy looks mighty fit.
I have to say, if he runs like he did in the Oly trials, he is going to be very hard to beat, even for RC.
He has a very low arm carriage; reminds me of Peter Snell. The thumbs dont go much above the waist band.

haha, great post.
I'm pulling for Ryan, but I don't see him getting any better than 2nd. Top 3 would be a really good day, for him and his fans.
