From the Portland Oregonian yesterday:
Ducks target 4xMile: The Oregon Relays will hold an invitational 4xMile relay on April 25, and the race could threaten several records.
According to the Track & Field News Web site, the collegiate 4xMile record of 16 minutes, 4.54 seconds was set by Michigan in 2005, and the U.S. record of 16:08.54 has been held by Athletics West since 1984.
Oregon has four athletes who have run under four minutes in the mile, among them A.J. Acosta (3:58.52), Matt Centrowitz (3:57.92), Galen Rupp (3:57.86) and Andrew Wheating (3:58.16). Shadrack Biwott has a best of 4:02.64, and James Withers a best of 4:03.24. If healthy, Jordan McNamara's 1,500 best of 3:41.13 puts him in the ball park.
Oregon Track Club Elite and Auburn are expected to enter teams. Others are waiting to be confirmed.
"We think we have three other collegiate teams and two international teams," UO coach Vin Lananna said. "It should be pretty good."
