No one will break the four minute mile barrier at Nike Outdoor Nationals. The national championship event isn't the place for anyone to break records, especially since no one is there to help set the pace. What all these guys need to do is meet up at a meet just before nationals where they can get some help, like the Midwest Distance Gala (where Finnerty ran 4:01 last spring) or an event like that, and really take a stab at it.
German didn't seem to have a problem with breaking a record there last year. Besides, 3:59.99 is a long way from the record. (In fact, German's 8:34.40 is probably a superior performance to 3:59.99, at least from a high school runner.)
