Am I reading the women's race start list correct and see that there are only 11 complete teams?
You're right. Many of the guys that German raced today are in their 20s and Geb is about 44 or 45.
No so sure that as a scholarship athlete it was worth missing NCAA indoor championships for placing 11th in the World XC Junior Race. Just my humble opinion.
Kim Smith in the lead still 13 minutes in.

Not too mention any names -- Trevor Dunbar. That said, at least the Juniors step up to the plate for the most part compared to the Senior Men....no disrespect to our noble warriors that our representing our nation in a few, but the fact that Rupp, Meb, Abdi, Goucher, et al are staying home is weak. We'll never get better by staying home.
"From that top group, you'll probably see several sub-13 performances this summer."
Do you just make this stuff up? How many jrs. broke 13 last year?
Smith was pushing right from the start but the Kenyans and Ethiopians were just packing behind her.
Masai has just taken off and looks like she's jogging.
what is that about, so gay of u to call us suckers. grow up and before u leave the house dont forget to take off your moms panties.
They did well because both Ethiopia and Kenya have focused training camps beginning in December - at altitude. You put all of our best Jrs in that similar setting and we will do better. Indoor track is NOT good training for world XC. Plus XC ended for our Jrs last fall. Whereas, this is the peak XC race for the Africans.

I'm sure John Kipkoech and John Kemboi Cheruiyot are so disappointed at not having those NCAA titles, too.
Linet Masai out in front 21:23 in. Getting really strung out. Kim Smith out of top 10.
wow, it's impossible to beat the Africans in XC. IMPOSSIBLE.
Florence Kiplaget unleashes a kick of mesmeric proportions to win.
Where the heck did she come from?!
Looking at German's progression compared to leaders.
This years course looks like it was much slower than last years.
runner year place time
Abshero 2008 2 22:40
Abshero 2009 1 23:26 46 seconds slower
Kipjumba 2008 5 22:45
Kipjumba 2009 2 23:30 45 seconds slower
Fernandez 2008 25 24:15
Fernandez 2009 11 24:13 2 Seconds faster
not impossible....paula, benita and sonia.
The africans are beating us by us thinking they are better!!
The course is absolutely brutal. The finish is way uphill.
The women's finish was great. Masai seemed to have it wrapped up and then one sensed Florence Kiplagat was gaining on her up the hill. Then in the last 100, she shot by Masai. Because of the hill it looked like Masai was jogging and Kiplagat on an all out sprint.
Not impossible, ask Australia's Benita Johnson how it's done.... She won it a few years back.
