really? no one cares that a 22/23 year old Aussie ran 3:35 for 1500m?

Cos what americans have been running this? 3.45s for wins at indoors. cool. Risely will go well this season, apparently is getting a hernia removed now and is having 3 weeks off then building into worlds. I wont be suprised if he gets a 3.32 this season. And no Im not Australian. Im a kiwi, and a fan! Well im a fan of supporting guys anyway not bringing them down for no apparent reason. Least the Aussies dont duck races...

honestly... no. If you'd put some American slant on it, a la Fernandez getting beaten in the race, then you would have 50 posts by now.

PS - they will care when Risley makes the final at World Champs this year and Webb, Manzano and Lamong all get run out in the heats and wonder where this aussie came from.

Fact is: a composite Aussie/Kiwi DMR would flat out down the Americans. Same goes for 4XMile and prob a 4X800m.

Most of us are not just about our own. Many of us here are true fans of the sport, no matter who is running. But national pride makes us want our guys to do well.

Having said that, it has so far been quite an impressive year down under. From young Gregson and the other youngester who went 13:49, to Collis Birmingham, now to Riseley, you folks have quite the upcoming crop down there. Good job Aussies. Looking forward to world XC, especially juniors, where I think our teams both have a good shot at doing well, and will probably be vying for the same spot.

great job. the hernia recovery is unlikely to be that swift, so he might want to re-think trying to get back in that short a time. it is more likely to be a full season break for him and then starting all over in late May to build for worlds, leaving him in uncertain position.

technology behind hernia surgery has come a long way in recent times, it is a simple key hole process. i would imagine he would be able to be back doing some decent running within 3 weeks.

An Aussie team is schedule to compete in the DMR at Penn this year. I'm not sure if Risely is one of the athletes running, but it's sure to be a solid team either way.

Riseley appears to be more of the real deal, not just some flash in the pan. Check out his recent performance in Oslo: 3:51.25 for the full mile, not too shabby. Better than any American could do right now, beside Lagat.

Webb will probably go to Europe this year like last year and run a 3:35 and then crawl back into Razcko's womb.

In a way it shows how far things have fallen from the early to mid-80's in terms of depth.

As for Webb being mentioned in another comment - I think Raczko needs to crawl out of Webb's ass. Webb has more talent than any of the guys in yesterday's race and look what's happened to him. We need to hammer the boards and the net in general to make him RUN for the door while it's still open. Webby, get a new coach.

The question is how long is this slump going to last? Webb now has a total of 4 funk seasons if you include the debacle at michigan and his first year as a professional.

With a population of almost 300 million there has to be more depth this in the US. Do you know the last US male 1500 meter runner to make an Olympic final was Jason Pryah in 2000.

Riseley looks to be the next Simon Doyle, who was Australia's last sub 3:50 miler.

I stand by my past comment that Webb is the most erratic distance runner in US history. At his best he posts one the fastest miles ever, and at his worst he loses to moderate NCAA talent. I mean the guy has run faster than COE and Ovett and now he can't even beat 3:39 runners.

Actually Mottram has a sub 3.50 mile and the Aussie record.

3:51.2 is not fast in today's races. He had a good race...

I do not expect him to be in the final at world's. He and Brannen actually looked weak in the race. Its July...3 maybe 4 weeks of polishing up.

Finals gonna be hard to get too. Other than Lagat, and maybe Baddeley, no Aussies, Willis is out, Manzano won't make the final, neither will Lomong.

Finals are looking like 3 Kenyans, 2-3 Ethiopians, Lagat, Ali, the German, and Moroccan. That leaves 2-3 places for a 3:49-3:51 miler to try and fill, in a tactical setting.
