Based on his indoor HSR and the fact he ran a negative split, is Michael Granville's outdoor record in jeopardy. I see that Granville had the old record and thought that if Andrews got in a fast outdoor race maybe he could have a crack. Or is 1:46.xx just in another league.

It is in jeopardy, but primarily because of Elija Greer, who ran 1:47 last spring.

will we get to see these to duke it out at some point...pan-am juniors maybe? or usatf juniors?

Primarily? please....
Robby Andrews has shown he was ready to go 147 indoors with no comp if he had gone out faster. Running 149.2 with 56-53 fashion is more impressive to me than what greer did, and he did this indoors with no comp. Greer has done nothing to indicate he has improved (hasn't had the chance) so there's no reason to guarantee that he has improved. We hope he has! But reaching 147 was a big step, improving again is not guaranteed.
I'd say there is a much better odds that Andrews can break it than Greer at this point. Greer can change those odds by giving us some indication he's improved. -
I would definitely put my money on Robby Andrews. Dude is legit. And, apparently, he's got some big goals...

I think the two of them head to head is an incredible prospect and either one could theoretically have a shot. Andrews is an incredible competitor for sure but Greer might have him matched in terms of foot speed. Let's just hope that if one of them DOES break the record they do more than Granville did with it..

I'd give the California kid Elias Geydon a reasonable shot at joining these two. He pulled off a 1:51 as a freshman last year then went undefeated in California xc as a sophomore. No guarantee of course but I wouldn't be too surprised to see him challenge for the best in the nation at 800m this spring.
-
That was seriously the best interview I've ever read. I hope Andrews breaks the record just so that he can start working on some of those lofty goals. What a BAMF.

Good article, and after watching the NIN mile I think his pal Brett Johnson learned how to navigate traffic from some of Jersey's finest on the turnpike

Except for the people who follow age group track, Elias Geydon is unknown to most east coast folks. Imagine a sophomore with 50x 400m speed and is the California Div II XC champ, running 15:01 to set a class record on the Woodward Park Course. Did I say he is a 400/800 runner and ran 1:51x his freshman year.
I am not sure if he is in the Mallon, Greer and Andrews category, but remember he is 2 years younger. 1:49 is not out of the question and it will be interesting to see him get into a quality mile or even 2 mile. -
That website is very entertaining. Props if you're a creator. I might start checking there as often as Letsrun. Way more exciting that fact-based reporting.

I am more interested in him running a fast mile. Spoke to his dad about this. He wouldn't comment, Cautious as usual, which is a good thing. The "right race" could make the 800 record a challenge for him given his schedule for outdoor. Maybe they can get him to a meets like Reebok or Pre to give him a shot. Not sure how he would handle being that far back at the 400 in this type of race though. The pro's will split at least 50point with most guys staying close to that pace. The mile is really a better situation for him with the front guys splitting 56 to 57 and him hanging back at 58 with some of the other guys.

I was at NSIC and can tell you that his acceleration was as impressive as anything I have seen. World class guys don't finish much faster than 26.3.
I agree that his real future is at 1500. In a couple of years he can finish a 1500 in 53 and be around 3:35. -

Why do people always say this when a white HS kid runs a fast 800m? This kid has a ton of pure speed. Who says he can't develop it even further and become a decent 800 guy (1:44-1:45) in the future? I say let's see what he runs (800m-wise) this spring in a race with good competition. -
because after high school many people move up an event. he has also showed strength in the mile so far this season and ran the USR in the 1k.
-
Many people = the people who don't have the leg speed required to excel at the event on a level of competition beyond high school.
Don't lump everyone into your BS formula. -

Geydon is the real deal. Hes gone under 50 in the 400 during MIDDLE SCHOOL! His 15:01 at the California state meet bettered the previous marks by two FL champs as well as that of German, which he surpassed by 13 seconds.
Dude has monster range. Put him in a race with Greer and Andrews, and maybe theyll tug him along to break Granville's soph record, which is?? -
on a semi-related note where is andrews going next year?...i know about greer and oregon, i'd think andrews should get the same if not better level of scholarship
-
andrews to UVA i believe
