German's 3:55 mile record video is up online...pretty sick solo performance
Thanks! Am watching it now.
legendary performance.
nice video, but could those guys taping it be any more gay?
What a fantastic run.
Thanks for posting this.
Amazing run. I don't think we've had an American willing to take the race from the gun since the days of Lindgren, Ryun, and Pre.

This wasn't NCAA's. It was cool but to me Rupp doing it against an NCAA field that was generally more fresh than him with a lot longer to hold on was a bolder move.
If German would have pulled this off at NCAA's I would have been very impressed. Having already done it at conference I think Lee Emanuel and the Wisco boy would have happily trailed him, not sure how it would have ended but I think Emanuel is ready for at least 3:55 right now.
If German had NOT done it at conference and then done it at NCAA's he probably would have pulled it off with the element of surpise. First he would have needed to be in the finals, and no matter what time you post coming in that is no guarantee. History is full of those lessons which is why it's a shame he wasn't there for the experience of qualifying for a final and the whole game that goes on with that.
The ncaa time was quite a bit slower.
I don't think he would've blown people out of the water at NCAAs, but you people have to realize he owns the COLLEGIATE RECORD in the mile, that means he is the fastest collegian EVER indoors. So I think he would've been a pretty heavy favorite.
I think he would've had a shot at the 3K against Rupp as well. 5K not so much.

Yeah, notice a trend:

amazing athlete. i'd say he runs as efficiently as anyone in the world other than Bekele. the sky is the limit for this kid if handled correctly.

Well said. German will go to his grave wondering if he was better than Lee Emanuel in March of 2009, for sure. I don't even like to think about this, it is so terribly sad. Tremendous loss for German, and for track fans everywhere.
Where did it all go so wrong. The world was his oyster.
I bet he'll look back and say "I probably would have won this race by 5 seconds, thank God I held out for a world XC gold medal."

Despite the heavy sarcasm, you might be more right than you know.
Biggest Championship Races in German's Career:
2007 Footlocker - Long Distant 3rd
2008 Jr. Worlds - 25th
2008 NCAA XC - 7th/8th prior to getting spiked 7.5K into the race
Every one of these races showed superstar power going in. Leaves a bit of question.
I for one hope to hell he improves this record, but the best way to do it is stick your nose in it and change it. Blind fans don't get you championship titles.
You are SO clueless.

Thank goodness to Gaylen you have your ncaa championship medal.
Could the guys recording this be any more annoying?
