Yeah, I have a little insight for you- a link to the USATF Road Running Technical Council forum where folks discuss measurement topics. I suspected #'s generated by GPS units was going to cause directors of certified courses headaches so I hoped to head off the storm of protest by coming up w/a position statement via USATF. If you read thru, you'll learn no official statement was crafted but plenty was said to note the limitations of GPS units sold over the counter.

I've yet to hear #'s from a GPS wearer come up short of the advertised distance on a certified course. GPS units are sweet devices providing useful info but they aren't as accurate as the tools used to certify courses.
