Fernandez, Derrick, Puskedra and Who?

Well, the US team just needs to hope that 1 of the other 3 guys run unbelievable. This is completely plausable. Maybe one of the Syracuse guys can pull a miracle performance out.

so who actually are the other runners going to worlds for the junior team besides fernandez, puskedra, and derrick?

But is the top 6 or 7 actually going? I know very well who the top finishers were, but that rarely translates into who will actually make the trip. Just look at the senior men's team that went to Mombasa following the boulder,CO champs. So many great US runners were in Boulder, but so few went to Mombasa.

So, again, does anyone KNOW who will be actually making the trip to Amman, Jordan for the junior men's team?

The results of the US champs are not necessarily the team for Amman. I haven't seen an official announcement either.

The other 3 junior boys behind the big three will be Ryan Hill, Pat Dupont, and Tito Medrano.

Ryan Hill runs for N.C. State, while Dupont and Medrano run for Syracuse.

All three of these guys ran at Footlocker Nationals in high school. While Derrick, German, and Luke were 2nd, 3rd, and 5th (respectively), Hill/Dupont/Medrano were 11th, 17th, and 30th.

Ryan Hill was the top (TRUE) freshman at NCAA's (XC) behind Luke, Derrick, Estrada, and Lowe. He placed 104th as N.C. State's 3rd man, with a time of 30:57. He also ran 24:33 over 8k at Pre-Nat's and was one of the top (true) freshmen at that race. In addition, he represented the US by winning the NACAC 6k championship last weekend in around 17:50. He had HS pr's of 9:06 for 2miles, and 4:13 for the mile. It seems as though he he is yet to race track for the pack, he is most likely redshirting.

Pat Dupont was Syracuse's 4th man at conference and 5th man at regionals in XC. He was the New York Federation XC champ in high school (15:52, top 10 NYS), and had an impressive under-the-radar double at the New York Federation meet in outdoor track, running a 9:07 3200 & a 9:07 3k steeplechase (8th all time HS). Dupont has run 8:35 for 3k so far this indoor season.

Tito Medrano was Syracuse's 3rd man at conference and regionals. He was a 9:02 2-miler/4:14 miler in high school, and has run an 8:25 3k this indoor season.

So it seems like Hill is the most accomplished XC runner out of the 3, but anything can happen, and all three of these guys look like tough XC/strength competitors. Hopefully they can perform well enough to help the US team to a respectable placing.

Patrick Dupont and Ryan Hill, Tito Medrano round out the U.S. team and are all very capable Jrs. Dupont and Medrano as Syracuse freshman were top-7 scorers in XC; they helped Syracuse to one of their best seasons ever and consistently ran in the mid-25s on 8k courses. Ryan Hill is very solid, ran top-5 at NC State in XC; in H.S. he was a 9:00/4:13 athlete and at FLXC South ran about 10 seconds behind Colby Lowe 2 years in a row. These three guys as best I can tell are true distance runners and is focusing on World Cross, which appears to be the best formula for success.

I don't know what happened to Rob Finnerty, Colby Lowe, Michael Fout and Kevin Williams, etc., but our selection the process is what it is. This is a good team and I can easily see the U.S. competing with Eteria, Japan, Uganda and Australia for 3rd place.

there are definitely two Sara Vaughns. One is a freshman at Alabama and one is a 22 year-old post collegiate (article) who got 5th at the USATF indoor 1500m

No disrespect to Lowe, but if Fout had been healthy AT all this team would be insane. That dude beat Derrick handily at regionals and then mopped everyone up at footlocker nationals.

Even if you put German as the number 1 and Fout as say 3rd man, INSANE team.

Well hopefully he will come around and turn into a great runner on the senior team.

On a side note, is it just me or do American runners seem to have chronic injuries much more than the Africans?

I mean Goucher had serious problems, Teg & Solinsky are reportedly having problems. German has had a lot of problems, Fout has been out for a YEAR! But you look at the top Ethiopians and Kenyans and they usually seem ready to roll. Soft surface?

had some great xc races in high school, but hasnt done jack in florida.

he definitely wont be another matt withrow.

Last I heard, Fout came down with a stress fracture during XC, which is why we haven't seen much out of him thus far.

He ran 24:22 at the ND invite, his only race at FSU thus far. Not stellar, but he has a lot of eligibility left before we can count him out.

My perspective is that Americans do more quality workouts than their base affords them. Kids who have been running since they were high school freshmen should not be running 6xmile at 5k race pace with short rest... kids who have been running since they knew how are a different story. Two people with the same times may not be able to handle the same workouts because their backgrounds are not the same.

Naturally, the soft surface issue cannot be ignored. I remember reading somewhere that many Africans are shocked when they come to America and they see everyone running on roads and sidewalks.
