It is really impossible to predict what kind of runner Fernandez will develop into. It is doubtful he will be in Webb, Lagat, and Krummenacker's league. We have seen so many fast Americans at junior level that never develop into top flight international elite runners. A 3:55 mile is fine, but it is nothing to write home about anymore. Heck, Lunn did it a few years ago before he got injured. Law of averages say Fernandez will probably be at the level of Lukezic and Myers.
He has shown no indication that he is capable of running 13:15.
I am not going to fall for the Fernandez hype, because so many other young promising US distance runners simply don't make it to the next level.
Those are just the facts. Even Webb may not get an international medal.
Scott and Spivey at least proved they could get consistent world rankings and medal in World Championship races. Fast times mean little if young US runners can't race. Today runners could learn a few things from Scott and Spivey. They knew how to RACE!!
