This is true. His Vo2max is actually 90.15.

It was approximately 2:19:50, give or take a few seconds, at the 1992 Houston marathon.
Well, 90 ml/kg is within the realm if they use an increasing incline protocol. This is what he's trained to do. Astrand also commented on this issue in his classic text. Anyway, the bottom line is it helps to be built like a jockey, especially when heading uphill.
Several factors make the traditional ml/kg approach a bit dubious, not that I expect things will change anytime soon. For anyone interested in this topic they can read into allometrics and other scaling issues in endurance performance.
