I couldn't figure out why he ran. Maybe he will run in one of the last chance races and he wanted to get his racing legs. You could tell he is not racing sharp. The IC4As is coming up, so maybe Georgetown will set up something there for him.
He's already used his redshirt. Why not run? Get his legs back under him, and if he's healthy, let him race.
uconn men and women for the 2nd year in a row...
Coaches are allowed to enter someone to the meet who has not met the qualifying standard. I think it is one entry only but I am guessing you could try to enter anyone and as long as it is approved by the other coaches and whatever committee then you are in.

I didn't know if he had used up his redshirt, so that makes sense.
Think Bumbi will try to get a fast 3K in a Notre Dame this weekend as a last chance for NCAAs? In an even paced race he could probably go 7:55ish and get a spot.
He ran a 7:53 last year I think. He theoretically should be better fitness wise this year, seeing as how he improved in cross country and in outdoor track. But, the injury might have held him back. If not for the achilles, I would have expected him to be just a notch below Fernandez at the mile and 3000. 3:56-7 and 7:50ish. I hope he recovers for outdoors. His peers are really taking off and it'd be easy for him to get lost in the surge of young runners. Anyone have any inside information on his goals and fitness? Predictions?
Bumbalough already used his red shirt, there was no harm here in trying to score some points and get a run over 3K.
That said, cranking one at ND then coming back at NC's after that and what I saw. is unlikely at this point.
