if this thing is to be believed, we're about to see a world record and some serious blow ups. they're running like 2:40/k (4:16 pace)

13:40 or sub-58 pace is still f-ing FAST!
14 women through 5k in 16:12. 68:21 pace.
It looks like the system didn't kick in until after 2 km, but the splits from 3 km on look accurate. Add 35 seconds to what the Championchip system is telling you and that will match the official time.
6 guys on 58:26 pace at 10 km.
2742 @10k
27:42 at 10k for the leaders.
Seems like the pacers did a good job (unlike what has happened in certain other world record attempts in the UAE)
13:40, then 14:02
And going out a little quicker than goal pace before settling in is not a bad strategy for the half-marathon.
The men are getting slower, but the women are speeding up. 10 women through 10k in 32:13. 67:58 pace.
Merga runs the 3rd 5k in 13:42. Holy s***! Makau right on him, Kiprotich trying to hang on
Merga throws it down! Out in front alone at 15 km in 41:29. That's 58:21 pace, on track for the WR. Patrick Makau is 2 secs back.
And that split would break the AR for 15k.

Just misses Geb's 15k WR of 41:22+ that was set en route to the 10M WR. Merga is flying, very impressive after running a marathon a month ago.
dont mess wit ethiopianz
hell that's only 7 secs off the WR of 41:22. where is this coverage coming from?
Split is the second fastest 15k ever actually:

While we're mentioning slow white guys, might as well point out that Rothlin blew up, 5k splits have been basically 15-16-16
This link is really good; it lets you follow the race in real time. 51 minutes in right now!
6 women through 15 k in 47:53. They keep getting faster - on track for 67:21. Doug will be pleased to see it's 5 Ethiopians and Philes Ongori.

iaaf.org said merga ran a 15k time trial at altitude in 42:16, 2 weeks ago, so far this year he has run
2:07:54 houston marathon
3 weeks after the marathon, 42:16 for 15k at altitude in addis ababa.
and now whatever he runs today.
3 good races in 5 weeks, kind of destroys or at minimum challenges, the theory that it takes months to recover from a marathon.
