No, when he is fit enough to win, he has shown that he knows how to win. I'm pretty sure his failures at meets (big or small) are because he physically can't do it on a particular day, either because he is past his peak, not got his training sorted out, etc. Sure, it probably messes with his head when things don't go the way he plans, but I doubt that's the cause.
His training and coaching is the problem.
Webb has the fastest 1500 in the world run in the last two years...by anybody. If coaching and training is the problem, please tell me how I can have that problem.
For the last time everyone - Webb has demonstrated at times that he kick well in fast paced races (3:30 to 3:32 range). This isn't the problem, although he's not always consistent in this department.
On the other hand, he has NEVER once been able to kick well in a slow paced professional race. Never. Therein lies the problem.
So let's have some Kenyan-style team tactics: German in the 1500 final this year to run an "honest" pace and set it up for Webb. Would that be cool, or what?

You'll have to ask Webb, but you obviously can't have it. Talent and hard work gave him the ability to run the fastest 1500 in the last two years. Managing the training so he is consistent enough to maintain (and maybe build form, though his 2007 form was good enough for major medals) year to year is the coaching and training problem. Mistiming peak form is not a surprise considering his year to year variations. I guess there's always a possibility that he has some kind of unspecified or undiagnosed physical problem.
Do you really think he had the fitness to win the race last weekend, but it was all in his head? That he was sprinting all coming up to the finish? I can't see that. I going off of my own race experiences. I've stunk it in many races when I haven't had the form, but I've never been too far off when my form is good. I'm sure that's true for most of us, isn't it? Why label him a headcase other than to rip on him when he is down?
I'm meant you really think "That he WASN'T sprinting all out coming up to the finish?"
once again... ITS THE MIDDLE OF FEB
Webb ran 4 seconds faster in high school than German's lifetime PR, Centrowitz is by far a better athlete than this kid you're toting as a worlds contender...
2012 Olympic team:
1500
1. Alan Webb
2. Andy Wheating
3. Leo Manzano
5k
1. Matt Tegenkamp
2. German Fernandez
3. Bernard Lagat
10k
1. Galen Rupp
2. Bobby Curtis
3. Chris Derrick
Steeple:
1. Fam
2. Solinsky
3. Alcorn
Marathon:
1. Ritz
2. Hall
3. Mcdougal or Rupp
Fernandez is only 4 seconds behind, and at a younger age. If Fernandez had another year in high school, he easily would have been the 5th sub 4 high schooler, and who knows, may have broken Webb's record, albeit he would have been a few months older developmentally.Webb has the slight advantage, and better speed, but Fernandez instincts may get him farther along on the international stage. Time will tell.

el guerrouj also quit seemingly at the height of his powers, a couple of months after 2 of his training partners got done for drugs. IAAF telling him to move on quietly?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he stated ahead of time he would retire after The Games.

Apparently the whole thing.
Webb will be fine, people will doubt but his goal isn't a fast indoor.
actually he did want to do well in indoors...also to all those that said february doesn't matter, remember 2008?
I never had faith in Webb... He is too bulky and doesn't have a deathly kick needed for a 1500. Wheating has a deathly kick from Hell, I think he is our future miler.
