Do any of you train using the Pat Clohessy “Complex” training program? I like to run road races year-round and I really like the philosophy of doing essentially the same schedule every week. I’ve been using this approach for about a month now. I know the majority of my fellow LetsRunners are into periodization, which is probably better for nailing a “goal race,” but I really don’t have a specific race for which I want to peak.
I only have time to run singles due to family, work, etc. Here’s how my schedule has evolved:
Mon: 60-70 min recovery
Tue: Hill Fartlek, or short tempo followed by hill repeats
Wed: 75 min steady
Thur: 8 X 400 w/200 float, or Fartlek
Fri: 60-70 min recovery
Sat: Race or progression run
Sun: 90+ min steady
Of course, De Castella and Moneghetti had a lot of success with this program in the marathon, but I’d like to hear some feedback, good or bad, from anyone who has used this year-round approach for running 5K-15K road races. I’m 39 now, and have a 10K best of 32:40 (age 22). Thanks in advance.
