Here's my recap from the race:
Great weather. Great Course.
It was a 2K loop that went around the perimeter of a corn field. It looped over several hills that were covered in mud. Made for some technical racing at high speeds.
The Junior race started out like everyone thought. I was standing at the 1K mark where Puskedra, Fernandez and Derrick were running three abreast. The Bright Orange, Lemon Yellow, and Cardinal Red made for a stunning image. Then, disaster struck. Coming down the most technical of the hills on the 2nd 2K loop, Derrick slipped and tumbled for several meters. He got back up and was able to close back with the leaders before hitting the 4K, but his rhythm was way off, and remained so the rest of the race. As they hit the 6K German made a huge move putting 30m on 2nd place in less than 400m. Derrick faded 10m back of Puskedra during German's move, but was able to regain his position by the 7K. He passed him instantly to hold on for 2nd place. Puskedra was barely moving heading into the last 200m. Still not sure if Derrick would have been able to cover German's move had he not fallen. Probably would have needed to make a move of his own after the 4K to eliminate the opportunity.
The Women's race was about as exciting as they usually are. Emily Brown went to the front after the first lapped, opened a gap on McGregor, and then McGregor dropped out. The only other excitement was when "Hey there, Delilah" made a run at 3rd place. But it was easily matched.
The Men's race started out pretty packed up through the first lap. From the beginning Fam didn't look like he belonged. He had trouble getting into a good starting position, and then never really established any rhythm. After the first lap, Meb took it out opening a large gap that he maintained for the rest of the race. Jorge made an attempt to go after him around the 10K. But Meb was too strong. Jorge's move probably cost him the World qualifying spot, as Nelson, Curtis and Moran were able to close on him once his move was over. Moran faded at 11K, and Jorge lost contact on the last hill.
That's a brief summary. If you have any specific questions, I might be able to remember.
