Fernandez's success thus far would not of taken place in Eugene. I think he is pretty happy with his decision.

UofO's women's program will implode within 18 months. Too many big personalities in a setting where the atmosphere is already strained. Good luck to Vinny and Maurica.

Yeah, since Luke obviously has had a terrible time so far. The top freshman at NCAA's in what place?
and that was a good decision for Luke. It would have been a lousy decision for German. Why do the Oregon nimrods think that everyone is out to get them? A good decision for one individual is not always a good for all. Deal with it. German is pleased with his decision.

I'm just not sure why you think German couldn't run at Oregon. The guy is just an absolute talent plain and simple. Just because he is running very fast, doesn't mean he's at his best. He did not run for a great program in high school, but smashed some longtime tried and true records while working at applebees.
He's just a monster. He would be a monster at damn near any program. Maybe he would like to be part of a team that wins nationals, maybe not.
I'm not saying he wishes he could leave. Most people don't ever want to switch, most people develop loyalty to the program they are in and enjoy it. That doesn't mean it is the best program for them though, just a good one.
Anyway, he's there, he'll do fine. He may go pro and leave them if things keep progressing, in which case it never mattered where he went to college.
So far we have someone with a great freshman cross season, finished with a DNF. His quick bounce back to his fantastic season open mile leaves me a little skeptical as to the seriousness of his injury, but who knows. And until he brings that kind of mile magic to his NCAA performances I'm not sure I would agree that his current college is absolutely the best choice. All we have so far is glimpses of brilliance, just like high school.

Ya think?
I would say German to OK State, but the coach there does a pretty good job working with his top 1-3 runners.
I'm not going to call her an idiot or anything because she knows a lot more about her and her decisions than I do, but I agree Stanford (or multiple other schools) would seem to be the a better choice.
Oregon is where our local high school sends everyone who can't get in anywhere else. They only teach 'em a little, but they do it in volume.
How is either one a bad decision? Fernandez is running great at Oklahoma St. (as I'm sure he would be anywhere). I have no idea if he'd be running faster, slower, or the same times at Oregon.
There are all kinds of colleges throughout the country. Each one met some part of the needs/requirements of its students. I don't understand how anyone on this board can judge that Hasay or Fernandez made the wrong decision. If Oklahoma St. and Oregon felt like where they were most comfortable, it works for me. Go Ducks!
Look what Stanford did to Ari Lambie.
Ohhh yes. Oregon would have been much better for Fernandez. Just look at the low talent pool they have and what they have built their program into.
Just ask Chad Hall, I'm sure he'll agree that Oregon is a perfect fit for all the best distance runners.

-seriously. what's with you conspiratorialists? why do you continue to perseverate on your theories when you've never met him or coach smith? give me a break. it was an injury that he had since high school that just reared its ugly head. nothing more. nothing less. leave it alone already! if you think he had some mkind of mental breakdown or some illusion that he is not tougher than nails, you DEFINETLY have ZERO idea what you are talking about.
Both should have gone pro by now!
If we chose A) Fernandez's decision was worse than this implies that the Oregon program is great so Hasay's decision was great.
If we chose B) Hasay's was worse than this implies that the Oregon program is bad and Fernandez made a great decision.
The question should be phrased as who made the right decision, which could easily be both people.

Which is it?? Hasay passed up a full ride to Stanford for crying out loud!!
Well people seem to forget that Fernandez needed a full ride and Oregon didn't have one available. So he didn't have a choice to make if you're implying that he may have chosen Oregon. So with Oregon out of the picture as an option where was he supposed to go better than Oklahoma St. in terms of running? They have top talent, high end depth and there coach seems pretty good.
So in my opinion it seems like a great choice without the benefit of hindsight.
And if Jordan is as smart as some people are complaining she is, than she probably weighed out her choices pretty heavily. People tend to bash Oregon like they don't even study there or something. That is pretty ridic. to me. As an undergrad you can get the same foundation that you would in 90% of universities around the country, and if you are inclined to go further than that, well you have the foundation to build off of. I know that there law school and environmental science programs are quite strong.
One thing that most other schools cannot provide is something like this:
http://www.flotrack.org/videos/coverage/view_video/234057/72121-ritz-heating-up-part-1-contestTalk about a school with a love of running.

Or C) They are both bad choices because both individuals seem to be talented academically yet both picked pretty sub-par schools academically.
And those of you who say Oregon is a good school...it's not bad, but it shouldn't even be in the same conversation as Stanford.

Unless of course you are talking about running (some might here) and then you would reverse your statement.
