I like the old logo! Keep the old logo! I like the newer layouts that have 4 stars!
I like the concept of opening up this design for the users of the site. However, I also think it is a cheap way for the Bro-Jos to get a redesign. Seriously, they should hire it out to a professional. Perhaps it will turn out okay with the contest, but there are a lot of design components that will be missed because professional graphic designers likely won't bother putting much time into the contest. Subsequently, the final outcome will be off. I am an urban designer/landscape architect and I get frustrated by lay-people's attitude of wanting design advice for free or really cheaply. It is a disrespect to a design profession. There could be a format for getting users' input that a professional can then incorporate into the design. As it is, you will get mediocrity.
Greetings all.
Being a professional designer with years of industry experience, I find the above comments offensive; saying that the designs submitted are mediocre. There are some really talented designers on there. We are all working to specific 'no-thrill' requirements that I think we are all finding difficult to work with. It is against out nature not to let our creative juices flow.

- I agree, it puts us out of a living ;-)
Welcome to Letsrun! Where highschoolers can make adult men go insane.
No offense to you, but you need thicker skin. Trying to reason, use logic, and teach on this message board is impossible.
I actually like some of your designs but here are two things I try to keep in mind:
1. Keep it above the fold
and
2. Don't make the customer think
184 looks pretty good, except the newspaper next to the quote of the day is an eyesore and a waste of space. The nav bar also looks a little corny. Otherwise it is a great design.
143 is nice, and it uses the original logo. The header is disorganized though and could use some re-factoring.
I think #179 has a simple but effective design. It isn't the cleanest or prettiest there, but it maintains the old concepts while organizing the site enough.
#314 is very good. Very easy to use. I feel it updates Letsrun the best while keeping it's identity. It just has a much more professional feeling to it.
