Everyone,
We just wanted to know that you can see the final round submissions come in live at: http://99designs.com/contests/16073
I thought I should start a thread where everyone posted their feedback as to what they liked and didn't like.
When referring to a design please start your comments with the design #. For example.
#**, this one rocks!!
If you register, you can comment about the designs on that site I believe as well.
We've already got more than 12 designs.

#9 is the best, i think. a lot of them are slick without being well organized or being functional - this pulls off both.
#12 & #14 are also good. They're clean. 12 moreso than 14.
I don't think it would be very hard to do the different highlights like you see on #9 - just use a CSS stylesheet. That way you can define different fonts, colors for the different levels of headings and regular text without having to add the markup to the actual page. -
I like design number 13, by mrchrisg. I looks very clean, but still maintains the general look of the current site
-
I kind of liked #4 best. Some general thoughts on all of them:
1) Buttons on top replacing the current menu on the left is a big improvement.
2) Not everyone has a 30" monitor. A lot of the pages seemed designed for a specific size monitor or bigger. Thus I see a nice gray strip about 3 inches wide on the left of my monitor, then I scroll to the right and the page fills my screen.
3) Most people designed three columns of equal width. I'm not sure that the columns have to be equal width and may work better with one of them narrower than the others. Or maybe not.
4) I personally like a simpler color scheme. Some of them are just too busy looking with too many colors.
5) The top banner should be narrow enough to read the first few headlines below. A couple of banners were huge and you have to scroll down to see any new content.
Enough for now. Some good work there, though. -
I think #4 might have some potential... I don't like the designs that use all the ads and navigation to push the actual news halfway down the page. Don't make the header any taller than needed.
#13 is really just a pretty version of my submission, though I guess I have no right to complain after publishing the HTML. And you could argue that it is actually better. But they could have at least changed the poll. -
I liked one of the designs from the 7 first round people
-
I kind of think #1 is the prettiest, but it doesn't allow for high information density.
-
Pretty doesn't matter if the site isn't functional!
-
17 is way to many to be choosing from. Narrow it down to 5 or so first.
-
numbers 9 and 16 are by far the best options, in my opinion
-
actually, the best pick is the current layout...but if we have to change, those are my votes.
-
#13 is by far my favorite. It is holds to what makes Letsrun so great and cleans up the mess.
#9 is good, but would be better if they could spell "archive" correctly and don't change the logo.
#16 is good too, but maybe a bit too confusing -
13 is my favourite. Like the current letsrun, but without being impossible to read.
-
16,14,9 aint bad either
-
#13 is basically a replica of what rojo drew on paper on the original designs
-
#6
#9
#16
If you are going for the drudge look, push them to "take away", rather than "add" to fit your daily text updates. These three look the best so far. -
I'm a little surprised no one is saying 17. I felt 17 was head and shoulders above the rest. I like have the quote of the day top center and the horizontal task bar.
Honorable mention goes to 9, 6, and 4, though I feel all need some revision with a few things (font is hard to read etc)
My vote is for 17. -
I don't know what your plans are for the final decision, but I think a good idea would be a vote to narrow it down to 5 or so, and then a final vote. I agree that 17 is too many.
-
#19 and #17 are my favorites. Also, it is time for a new logo.
-
So now that more have been added I need to adjust my opinions
#13 is still the best, but needs to have more content on the front page (i.e. make it a longer webpage that you can scroll down through old content.
#25 is very good, it just needs slightly bigger font for the headlines
#19 NEEDS to get rid of "Politics"... that is not Letsrun. And it needs more content (a longer page)
These three stand out to me as the best now.
