David Letterman has a tiny studio audience yet millions of viewers. The Golden League meeting can be held anywhere. Alls you need is a TV audience. Would anybody watch a Golden League meeting in the USA ?

Reebok had a variety of people in attendence. Not just from Jamaica. I would say the finish line seats were purchaced mostly by them but overall I would say it was a 50-50 split.
The track at Icahn Stadium in NYC is a very fast one...world records have already been set there in both the sprints and the distance races. On the other hand, Randall's Island is an enormous pain in the butt to get to. Most New Yorkers don't even know where it is.
For sure your first trip down there can be a bit rough but once you know where the exit ramps are off the Triboro Bridge (now the RFK bridge)it's a piece of cake. Once your on the Island its very easy to get to and the bus stops directly across from the stadium. It will be even easier once the new ramps are built which should be very soon.

No GL meet is held here anymore.
How do you figure? The new stadium is complete, and Bislett is still a GL meet.
At the Reebok meet i'be been to around 90% of the fans were blacks, 2/3rds of those Jamaicans. Jamaicans are the best fans in the world.

Euro GL/GP, Adid/Pref/Reeb/USAv meets are short TV meets. Reeb & USAv have 95% Jamaicans in attendance
I forgot: Jamaicans don't count as real people! Their money isn't real!
It means that in order to make as much money through T.V. advertisement sales that you have to market the GL meet to the Jamaican community and to the Afro-American community. That would be the prime target audience. Would any other groups watch a GL meet on T.V. in the U.S. ? I wonder.
After the abysmal attendance at Millrose (I was there, where were you?) hard to make an argument for putting a GL meet in the city. Sure, the numbers may be there, but the fans can't merely exist, they need to be willing to actually show up to the thing.
I was at Millrose and the attendance wasn't that bad for a meet in Manhattan, ground zero of the international banking system meltdown. Any GL meet would be great at either or both Eugene or Icahn IMO. TV meets are short and sweet and both places can garner and support a half-days excitement. An IAAF WCs would be best held in the undisputed Track and Field Capitol of the World, Los Angeles, California.

If you're trying to say that people didn't show because of financial stress, my ticket cost $10 or $12 or something ridiculously cheap like that.
I live in Eugene and I say put it in NYC (IKahn). Eugene is in danger of drowning in track meets, and I wonder how many more can be supported, even with the rabid fans who live here. NYC would be perfect if they can get organized and show that they can get the financial and fan support to keep it from being a disaster. Nike would probably jump at the chance to be the organizer and financial support (and beneficiary) of a NYC Golden League event. If Nike could take over the Pre Meet, they would probably do it in an eyeblink, but this is Tom Jordan's (actually Oregon Track Club's) event--not Nike's, though Nike provides the athletes and the funding to make Pre the financial success that it is. In the meantime, I suppose Eugene would be a good interim place to hold it, with the hopes that NYC can prove itself worthy and capable in a few years.
