Heidi Magill-Dahl from BYU / UT will be running for ETSU next year. Why would a 2:04 800 meter and 4:15 1500 meter runner transfer there? What gives?

Someone needs to look into that.
This is my guess:
She was at Tenn, didn't like it.
Her husband is there doing grad work, he can't leave.
She wants to stay as close as possible w/o running for Tenn.
Dunno, not really THAT close, but who knows.
maybe just maybe she likes the program
or hated BYU
Utah isnt for everybody
i run at BYU and heidi got married, and followed dave, her husband, to med school. because running is important to her but her family is more important. it makes sense to me.its a pretty simple explanation
that roster has pics of everybody else, but not her. that might lead one to believe she isn't really a full member of the team. just a guess.
she used her 1 time transfer exception to attend UT. IF she left after 1 semester and enrolled at ETSU last spring, then she should have 1 year of eligibility left this spring. That all depends on her being full time there last spring and this fall.
but if i'm etsu, and this gem falls in my lap, wouldn't I have a full bio and pic like all of the other freshmen and team members?
and if running were important and she was near her husband why would an ALL SEC cross country runner who is a track specialist not run a track season at UT? (an 8/15 runner being coached by JJ Clark would appear to be a good fit)
lots of questions, but all we can do is watch for her results and hope she is doing what she wants to do.
This is what happened.
My fiance, at the time, left for medical school at ETSU after my sophomore year at byu. We lived apart for that year, but by Christmas break we had decided that the separation was too hard. My husband did everything he could do to transfer to the University of Utah medical school, but medical school transfers do not happen unless you have a spouse who is faculty at the school.
The coach at BYU then helped me to contact UT and set things up there. I was commuting two hours every day, as was my husband, and UT meets for practice every day, and twice of mwf, as opposed to byu only meeting once on mwf and your on your own the other days. I wasnt ready for time commitment and the commute as well as all the other changes that had just happened in my life, it just wasnt a good fit and I was miserable and my grades started to suffer. (The commute was also VERY expensive.)If I had been at UT before all of this, or in other circumstances I think it would have been a great fit, but the timing was just off.
So I left UT and my husband and I moved to Johnson city. I spent the last year going to school there and so now I am eligable to compete this track season. The coach is really chill and it looks like a pretty good fit. I am just thankful to be running and looking foreward to a good season with some good pr's.
And that's the truth.
Mags, thanks for that clarification. It is unusual for someone to transfer more than once...I think the NCAA really clamps down on that....so how many seasons (x-c, indoor, outdoor) did you lose/sacrifice due to these transfers?
Thanks.
Good luck at ETSU! I loved running there. Glad to see they will have another great middle distance runner on the women's side.
I heart Sara Bowman
This is awesome-- love it when the actual person being talked about gets on here and sets the record straight!
Heidi,
Glad to see you end up at ETSU. They have had some tremendous athletes come out of that school. I ran there back in 1998 - 2001. We are honored to have an athlete of your caliber transfer here, even if it is only for one semester. Congratulations on breaking Val Urchison's mile record. She was a very good runner at ETSU. Good luck this season!

Can someone tell me about the facilities at ETSU? I have family in the area and used to use the black outdoor track until a few years ago when it was taken out and replaced with... nothing? Is there an outdoor track that the public can use? And someone told me there's a new indoor track but the pages on the website that I found don't mention it, just the old one. Thanks for any info you can offer.
The made up theories are usually more entertaining. I like think that she is on the run for tax fraud and staying one step ahead of the feds. Moving because family is more important than her running career just seems too nice to me...

Johnson City is one of the worst cities to train in, and the women's team there is still garbage. She has run for ETSU and she is rolling, but let's face it, the Atlantic Sun belongs to Natasha Harvey from JU.
