If they raced head to head in a 10000 in 25 separate races, Rupp would win at least 24 of them.

Completely false.

13 Meb Keflezighi Nike 28:39.02
16 Scott Bauhs Cal. St. , Chico 28:54.32
He had a poor race... I guess Meb just sucks too then, eh?
I think Rupp has the 5k/10k thing at the moment, but Scotty has a slight edge otherwise. An exciting next few years for both!
Meb had just gotten back from a fairly serious injury and was not back at full strength. Bauhs was coming off a strong track season. So that's not a fair comparison. Bauhs may have had a bad race, but it was also one of the big races that you shoot for, so it looks even worse when yuo have a bad race there. 16th place is nowhere near what could have been expected of him.
In my first post I think people though I was saying Bauhs wasn't as good because he wasn't an Olympian, that is just not true. He is very high level of ability and there is so so much room to develop. Also, Bauhs was far far from his best at the OT's. I think early in the year they were just trying to get there, and then after he ran the 27:48 it was hard to adjust training to be ready to roll in Eugene. But that's just what I see.
I think Rupp is in an amazing stable, who will make sure everything he does takes him to the next level, while Bauhs will have to find that place.

Chico State issued a press release last year documenting that Bauhs had trained that much. Doesn't mean he trains that way week-in and week-out, but if you're denying this, then you are calling Chico State and/or Bauhs himself a liar.
I like both of them, but Gaylen has one trump card--Phil Knight.
End of story.

He defeated Nicodemus in May 2007 at "the DII level", those results are from July 2008.
Chico State issued a press release last year documenting that Bauhs had trained that much.
Proof?
Dig for it yourself. I'm not going to do your work for you.
And, frankly, it doesn't change the premise of what I'm saying. Let Bauhs prove me wrong by running 13:10 and 27:20...
Everyone else says you're lying. You say you aren't. Everyone else is right until you prove otherwise.
Yes, you're right. I am lying. I did not read that anywhere. I just felt like pulling it out of my ass, that number in particular. And Scott Bauhs will go on to run sub-13:00/sub-27:00 and get an Olympic gold medal WHEN he actually does start running 130 miles per week, since he's NEVER done it before. So goes the letsrun logic.
In case you haven't noticed, I'm simply mastering the obvious.

Rupp is already ABLE to run 27:20 or faster, he just HASNT yet.
Agreed. I'm also ABLE to run 3:58; I just haven't yet. And Jordan Hasay is already able to run a 3:55 1500; she just hasn't yet. Why can't people see that?
I read a press release last year on how much of a douche bag sagarin is. Really good read, you should check it out.

Where is that press release? Post a link to it if you can. That never happened. Sure, he's done some 100 mile weeks, but 130 is a crazy rumor.
Every year he has done a little more to get a little better. His progression from freshman year of High School through 4.5 years of college has been steady. His time drops have been steady. There has been no sign of peaking or pushing some envelope.
From my experience Scott has been a strength runner, better suited to the hills of cross country (that is why he made the world team as a 21 year old) and the longer distances (27:48 and don't forget his 1:03 half marathon) than shorter stuff. His sub 4 mile was off of strength after World XC. His let down at the Trials was due to his long season and focus on Div II nationals more than anything.
It will be interesting to see what a non-college schedule will do for his track season in 2009.
I see Rupp and Scott both dropping some crazy times in the next year. But as it has been pointed out, Rupp has been training with great a great coach for many years and has had the ability to train and race with many top athletes. Scott had coaching in high school that was marginal at best and then really stepped up when he arrived at Chico. It only took him a couple years to benefit from the training there and make up for any limitations he had experienced in HS. Wait till he has a couple more years under his belt and then try to guess his limitations. I know that his goals are high and his racing strategy is fearless. That coupled with his training situation will provide an interesting opportunity to watch a great athlete.

no, see, you're confusing "able" with "capable". Neither you nor Jordan Hasay are in sub 4 shape for your respective events.
hey sagarin, i don't mean to belabor this, but are you sure you're not confusing bauhs with jim grabow from long beach state, another d2 school? i seem to remember a school-issued press-release around the same time bauhs was really emerging comparing these two, but grabow for sure trained that much. either way, i agree with you. american guys seem to get down to 27:30 or just under and then fail to get faster. bob kennedy might have been the only exception if he focused on it, but I think he had a 3:55 mile PR or so and people think he was capable of faster.

So are you a blithering idiot or a liar pulling claims straight out of your ass? What's obvious at this point is that you are definitely one or the other, though you could of course be both.

No, you're confusing knowing someone is "able" to run a time because he has RUN that time with "thinking you know" someone can run a certain time because it's your wet dream. We have no idea what 10,000m shape Rupp is in until he runs it.
