At first I was thinking not to read too much into this because it is not uncommon for H.S. athletes to run mile and 2-mile PRs in a track time trials during the XC season. Towards the end of a XC season an athlete is in peak aerobic condition, which allows them to run fast. The fact that they have not done a lot of speed work leads you to believe they will run much faster during the outdoor track season, but you generally don’t run too much faster, because when you are strong, you may not have the same leg turnover, but you can sustain a pace and can kick from further out. Keep in mind that until about the early 90s, most Africans basically did cross country-type training all year round. - However, what I just saw is pretty incredible because I use to train for indoor track at times on an outdoor track, which most North East athletes have done at some point, and when it is really cold and the track has a slight covering of snow, the times are definitely slower. After looking at some old running logs of similar conditions; I am amazed at being a able to run a 9:01 3.2k
The great runners from the 60s and 70s, who are now legends, would definitely respect Trevor Dunbar's 9:01 in the snow. Unlike some present day runners who seek optimal conditions, this kid pushed it outdoors in very adverse conditions. Very impressive video and a kid to root for.
His stride reminds me of Pre.
That's my cousin. The best high school runner in the nation :) Keep it up Trev!
You guys are falling for a classic hoax. Notice that they shoveled the snow off the "track". But that is not really the track. They have shortened it, most likely toward the back away from the camera, or perhaps the whole thing has been made somewhat short. Just look at Trevor's body. He is running at more like 5-5:20 per mile and his teammates are doing a terrible acting job in pretending they can't keep up. The "track" is an illusion. They are hoping everyone will just assume that the area where they have shoveled the snow is actually the track.
this kid looks alike his dad who was running sub 4 minute miles I think in his mid 30's. he is legit.

14:47 for 5K cross country is no joke either.

I'd believe anyone who can run 14:47 for 5K in cross and trains without competition in Alaska could possibly solo a 9:01 even while it's snowing. time will tell, wait till arcadia.
sorry didnt happen wrote:

Hey troll, shut the f*** up.
Dundar had the fastest time of the day at Mt. SAC Invitational earlier this year and it was 85 degrees outside. He can run in the heat.

stroll down the page for pics and race review.
I've had the opportunity to watch Dumbar at the AK state track meet since he was a freshman, when he ran mid-high 9:20s. Last year he got nipped in the 3200, but came back to run very well at Golden West Invitational, where he ran 9:06. A 9:01 in a snow storm is entirely believable.
Plus he bested Schwartz' time at Mt. SAC by five seconds. Schwartz was a sub-9 two miler this past track season. Dunbar is certainly a talent and should mix it up for the win at Foot Locker.
Who beat him last year in track?

Jake Parisien, now at UA-Anchorage, a DII team that just qualified for nationals
I just got home from work and I didn't feel like going out for another run because it's dark and cold out. Then I watched this video and decided not to be a pussy.
i love the last post. amen brother.
Trevor, that was an inspiring run, and one that people will be able to talk about in 10-20 years (didn't Don Clary do something really similar to that 30 years ago just after cross)
watching your run pretty much suspended business here for the last 9 minutes and 1 second.
Run fast this december!
Jake Parisien beat him in the state track meet last May.

It's not that great, i could do it if i wanted to
This kid is good! I'd rate him ahead of Fernandez at this same point in Fernandez' high school career. What I'd love to see is Dunbar going to Oregon and running with Centrowitz, Wheating and Pskedra for the next 2-3 years. I think if he did that, he'd be whipping German by time Dunbar is a sophomore.
I can describe this run in two words: Balls.
Nice run, but it's no 13:55 in trainers.
