Old thread, but that workout sounds pretty juicy.
Old thread, but that workout sounds pretty juicy.
That workout seems pretty much a lie, that's what it sounds.
If one could do such a workout then the person should be able to run 12:30 or under for 5000m
This workout sounds eerily similar to one done by Peter "Bones" Sherry in late fall of 2003 at the Polo Fields. Sherry did seven 1000m repeats, absolutely crushing the terrible second team American University squad.
Heading into the final repeat, all eyes were on Bones. (And by all eyes I mean both Bridget and Terrence "Word" Weir who passed the time at the workout discussing the Chadwick's dinner special that evening and who would pick up Coach's Tab.)
While slowly jogging to the start line, Bones heard a distant thunder clap and lightning roughly 11 miles away. After muttering to no one in particular, "I have a family," Sherry ditched the rest and ran an incredible 2:18 1000m from the Polo Fields to his brown Toyota Camry to finish the workout.
I have never seen anything like it, nor will I ever again. And by it, I mean a 1994 brown Toyota Camry driving off at 100mph up the Rock Creek Parkway.
I can't fathom someone running true 3k pace for 8k in a workout, seems like a bit much. Maybe 6k if you are elite aerobically but that is just too fast of a pace for 8k of volume especially when you have the 5:3 ratio of rest. I may be miscalculating so if someone has evidence of a pro running a workout like this feel free to provide the link. But important to note, 'true' 3k pace is what they are capable of running, not a 7:45 guy who closed in 56 when it is clear they is capable of faster.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
