the hansons don't believe in recovery runs? Um, yes they do, I've run with the team before. They start off easy and build into it with various guys doing various paces, its thats simple.

I read the log of a guy that runs for Hansons. He never runs slower than 6:40 per mile and frequently runs faster than 6:20 per mile on his easy days. I'm not saying that that is wrong for this guy, or that every guy in the program does this (maybe they do, maybe they don't), but I get the feeling from what he writes that this is the norm for the group.
nate ran 58, 2:07, 4:32, 9:47 in hs, qualified for state championships in xc 4 times on the track once
1:59, 3:58, 4:17, 8:20, 14:31, 30:55(xc) in college qualified for d2 nationals 3 times, once on the track, never an all american
PR's are 1:59, 3:58, 4:17, 14:20, 29:44(road), 1:04:14, 2:14:56
there I did your searching for you.
nate said he has never broken 60
In college he ran 58 for a 400. He had PR's of 2:08, 4:32, and 9:47 in High School.
He has had a beard since he was about 11 years old, if that contributes anything.
He did run 25:21 for 5 miles at age 18...

Some of us prefer the Northeast over the midwest plus Nate doesn't like most of the Hansons guys. He thinks that they receive way too much credit for how little they have done.
Of course he doesn't like the Hansons...if he ran for them he might actually have to stop complaining.
"Carney gets all the attention, the Chicago race director dissed me, I can't afford good food, my car's really old, blah, blah, blah."
I just wonder how much longer Saucony will let him stick around. The economy is tightening, so they might not have that much cash to throw around for 2009. And if keeps on putting up dismal races (or worse, DNFs), he might find himself out of a job.
Trust me. Nate is on solid ground with Saucony.

Well, I have a meeting this afternoon but after that I will write up a detailed biography of Nate Jenkins for the stranger on the internet angrily demanding it.
I don't give a crap what YOU do, I'm just asking if ANYone reading this knows. If you don't then STFU and click "return to index" rather than gratuitously taunt. What's your problem?

He could keep his thoughts and training to himself as most elite marathoners do. However, he puts it out there for those interested. If you don't find insight to his blog, then don't read it. Please don't put the guy down for speaking his mind. Or else, he might go and hide like the rest.

Some of you prefer your coddling enclave over boldly striking out and taking a real chance. Why he would ever have the time and energy to know who receives credit and how much and thinks he has the mental toughness to run faster than his soft body already has is confounding. He should wish them well and be glad anyone is paying attention to the domestic marathon scene anymore. If Nate has a problem with the Hansons then he must have a problem with himself. Why the hell are there ever threads on here about male 2:14 marathoners? You know what? Jenkins gets too much credit for what little he has done. Typical northeastern whiner with his posse of typical northeastern sycophants.
i like nate it's the rest of you guys i don't like so much.
Give it a rest pal, what are your PR's? Nate's bad day is better than 98% of th people on here and he is honest and up front about everything. GIves you a real slice of his training, that's all you can ask for. We are debating this on a message board. he went out and ran and din't give up on a bad day.

No YOU give it a rest already, buddy. What would my PRs, or yours or anyone else's, have to do with an honest response to what Jenkins's supporters claim are his true, honest feelings? I don't give a crap how he trains. He's in the same boat as the Hansons if he really has said that he thinks they get more credit than they deserve. That did lead me to think about it, though, and helped me to realize that he hasn't run fast enough to warrant all the attention and credit he gets on these boards. He is NOTHING in the marathon on the world scene. He's a decent national level runner who was gifted a high place at the OT when faster runners dropped back or dropped out when they saw that top 3 would be out of the question.
Dude, you are lashing out becuase Nate Jenkins supposedly does not like some guys on the Hansons?
Someone else was "speaking for Nate" saying that. You don't even know its true. So I don't think its reasonable to start ranting based on hearsay.
Coddling enclave? Is this a joke? If you are referring to runners taking a chance, Nate Jenkins seems to have done so, read his blog, he does put some serious effort in.
The Hansons seems to be a great solution for some, but it has not worked for a lot of people, many of them good runners. Their philosophy may not work at all especially for guys like Nate Jenkins who have been self coached for awhile and are used to captaining their own ship.
THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER
from reading his blog, he is perfectly fine with the Hansons guys. He even has run with some of the guys on the summer road circuit and he gets along with them.
Nate said the thing that prevented him from going to Michigan was that he was settled in Lowell, he ran with the team, had a kind of assistant coach position at the school, and wasnt ready to make a big move.
He also said that he can be difficult to coach at times because he likes to do things his way on his own philisophy because he favors the Canova school of training, and he felt this was working especially after his breakthrough @ the Olympic Trials.
On what course was the 2:14 on again? I hear it was pretty easy and flat the whole way.

Ok I was just going to let this whole thread go and sit back and enjoy it, as has already been well discussed I'm pretty self obsessed. But to be clear I really like the hansons guys. I think they don't get enough respect, Luke Humphrey and Mike Reneau's runs in the last few weeks and the fact that the women basically finished 4th at worlds are just the latest example of them running extremely well but not being rewarded with fast times because of the conditions. I don't run for the Hansons for three basic reasons, I don't feel their training is right for me, I respect their success but I am happier with what I am doing. I make more money this way without having to work, everyone seems to think they are getting rich over their, now its low stress cause you know the rent is payed but they are not cleaning up that is for sure, and lastly I'm too independent and frankly don't deal well with authority and would conflict with kevin and keith and that would be bad for me and bad for them. For a program to work the most important thing is that you believe fully in it, whether it is really best is secondary. If you are not a 100% committed and faithful to a program it will never work, period. So I'm not going to go over there and waste their time and resources and mine only to hurt my and the guys around me chances of doing something special.
Again to be clear I very much like the hansons both as a group and as individuals and I consider Kevin and Keith as well as a number of the athletes, men and women, personal friends and I hope they think the same of me.
Ok sorry for the interruption please continue you on I am really enjoying reading this, good and bad stuff, all very entertaining.
His latest blog entry was just posted tonight about NYC. He said he read the LetsRun thread and agrees with it. I give the guy credit for finishing.
