I know everybody is going to run slower on a cross country course than on road, but I seem to have much more difficulity running fast on cross country courses. My stride seems very labored and slow during a cross country race as opposed to a road race where I'm able to get in a good rhythm at a solid pace. I get beaten by runners who I could easily beat in a road race. 3 weeks ago i did a workout of 3x1mile with a 400 jog in 5:15,5:14,5:08. The next week i did a 5k xc race and only ran 17:33!!!!! I know my fitness is there because the week before my 3x1mile workout i raced a road 5k in 15:58. Can anyone try to explain why my stride feels so different and slow on a cross country course as opposed to on a road or on a track? Any suggestions or exercises or training tipe i can use to try and fiz this?
