Yes, actually. Not world class, but certainly good. Two sub-4 milers were 4th and 5th in this race, 11+ seconds back. This was also on a 200m indoor track which, if you have ever run on one, you know makes it harder to run the faster races as the turns are tighter and the straights are shorter.
The impressve part is not that he won by 10 seconds, it is how he gained that margin. He ran 3:55 by himself over the last half. Ryan ran 3:37 chasing people the whole race, never had to set his own pace, all he had to do was follow.
Now it is possible that German Fernandez is just a great time trialer, as he hasn't yet been on the track with people who are significantly better than him. We probably won't know until he races Rupp.
