A bit over 2:40...was shooting for sub-2:35 and it was just not my day. I don't think the weather was that much of a factor, but it did warm up considerably for those that finished in 3+ hours (conditions went from code yellow, I think, to red).
Ever get 50 meters into a race and feel that you just don't have it? That happened to me. Probably should have tapered more (did hard workouts back-to-back Tuesday and Wednesday, thinking "I'll have enough time to bounce back"...mistake, I still felt those workouts with token runs and a day off). Well, need to work on that taper.
Some things I liked: race organizers all over the potential for overheating, with more than enough water stops (maybe too many); crowds were abundant and supportive (big ups to Pilsen this year...they came to play, got to hear Queen's "We Will Rock You" to the dragon in Chinatown); and...I can't think of a third thing (good competition...if you run 2:30-2:40, you won't be alone at all, and that's a rare thing).
Things I didn't like: crappy Chicago roads that make it hard to run tangents (potholes, roads that slope to allow rain to runoff, barricades set up to seal off the shortest route); the race seems to become so internationalized that we have kilometer markers that are identical to mile markers (so from a distance it's hard to tell)--call me a xenophobe, but I want mile markers only (and I got to admit, this is my fault, I missed a ton of mile markers, and I have no excuse because I have trained on this course a lot), um...the crowds leading up to the start and (even though I took advantage of this) the "pay a little more and get access to this nice area" sealed-off areas they have (remember when marathoning was for a different breed? Well, I don't because I'm not that old, but I can't imagine the runners who participated in the first US running boom approving...and it's not an unfair standard to apply because it's turning a great race into the running equivalent of Jefferson Starship).
Hope everyone else who ran got the most of the experience!
