I'm a senior in High School this year and I just got early dismissal (I get to leave 90 minutes early). I plan on spending at least an hour of that time running.
I don't really trust my coach to get me to where I want to be (all state). We have two meets a week, Tuesday and Saturday, almost every week. Our hard days are extremely easy by most standards. It's always intervals and usually no more than 5 of them with long recovery's at 5k pace. I never before had time to do more after practice because I still had to go home and do homework. I moved to this school from Texas after my freshman year and it's disapointing to know that kids that were slower than or equal to me are now faster than me, undoubtedly due to superior training.
I'm really excited about having early dismissal this year because I can get some quality workouts in.
I was thinking that before workouts that I know are supposed to be hard, I will do a tempo run, or either a fartlek or progression run, just because my coach never does those workouts, with just an hour run with strides on all other days. Is this how I should structure my runs on my early dismissal? Thanks
