Goal:
Run a smoking fast time on the track next spring, preferably in the 1500.
Background:
First year out of university. Given newfound freedom of training schedule, want to experiment a bit.
Finished track season in May.
Started running 50 - 60mpw at the start of June.
Went up to 80mpw 1st two weeks of August.
3rd week did 100 miles, on track for similar total this week. Feeling good, aerobically strong.
Plan A:
Continue Lydiard-style base phase until around mid-December, at or slightly above current mileage (depending on how I feel, of course). Start cycling through Lydiard phases and reach "Peaking Phase" sometime around March in time to run a decent amount of races, hopefully resulting in some nice fat pb's before heading off to work in May.
Plan B:
Finish up base phase around the end of September. Start doing a couple aerobic workouts per week, maintain decent mileage, but obviously not as high as base phase. Do a few longer xc races in October an November (8k, 10k).
Continue working out twice per week through spring, gradually shift emphasis from long distance down to middle distance, adjust mileage and workouts accordingly. Attempt to run pb's in March/ April.
