The marathon champs are Sat before the Mercedes Marathon in birmingham. The race director, Val is also the owner of the Trak Shack running store in Birmingham. She is awesome-totally committed to making the race about the runners. The course is downhill for about 8 miles into downtown and then 3 loops of a criterium type course before turing into the finish. The standards are approximately 32:30 for 10k, 1:11:00 for the half mar and 2:30 for the marathon. I would contact them for the specifics but I think this info is pretty accurate.
mf, I have heard conflicting reports about the course, some are saying the course (elite course) is TOUGH, and you are describing it as somewhat easy.
ANYBODY have an elevation profile of the course?
I might run it, but it is going to be an expensive, long trip for me, coming from China via Europe.

I called Track Shak in Birmingham and the standards are 32:00 for 10K and 1:12:00 for the Half-Marathon. I wasn't given a Marathon standard. However, you have a full year, dating back to Feb. 2002. USATF certified courses only, though. Laters..
Should be pretty fast-designed by runners(Clint Verran and Scott Strand) not the city or administrators. As I understand it, and I have not seen it, it is a gradual drop for the first 8 or so and then flat in the downtown area for the 3 loops. The elite course is totally different from the Mercedes course which is quite tough. The map I have seen looks like it should be at least fair and possibly fast.
is there a web site for this race? prize money?
You would think that there would be some news on this race. Dates, money, athletes coming etc. Where is all that money going that the bid said it had. I hope to the runners only and not into USATF hands. Is the race only 4 months away? Is it the same course for the trials in 04. Please let us know what is going on.
i have seen the map as well as the elevation profile at the Trak shak. It does drop, they it is flat.
thks to all for 411.
GOD Bless,
