Just bumping this up for the Tuesday update if anyone has anything.

What good runners have come out of montana? not to be a jerk but seriously? She seems to be qualified for montana, doesn't she? She is pretty cute, too.

Shannon Butler (Montana State... not UM, although he was coached by Raunig)
Antony Ford ran for UM before transferring.
Megan O'Reilly was a top recruit out of HS.
Scott McGowan was a national champion (indoor 1500m).
That's just a few names off the top of my head.
I think she's certainly qualified to coach Montana, but the program has never seen its real potential. I was hoping a D-1 head coach would jump at the opportunity.
Just to name a few more:
Sabrina Monro, 2000 XC naitonal runner up
David Morris, 1993 3k indoor national champ
Doug Brown, 1965 3-mile and 6-mile outdoor naitonal champ
Agreed, program is soft but it has a lot of untapped potential. If the new coach can just get the ball rolling they could have a great future there. I mean, who wouldn't want to go to Missoula? It's a great place for a running school
Lets be honest here, good looking people go very far. Maybe not to the CEO level (I am pretty sure the Uglies hold your looks against you then...I mean have you ever seen a good looking CEO?) but you can certainly move up faster.
I read an article that doctors spend 150% more time with attractive patients. My wife has a very attractive friend...and guess what, she has never been turned down from a job (now works at Disney making big bucks).
Though lets be real here...most runners are ugly dogs and we get jealous when someone who is not as talented (but better looking) gets the job.
I think the thing that bugs ugly people the most is when there is a person who is attractive AND talented. I'm not saying attractive people don't often get preferential treatment but many people act like those two qualities are opposite poles on the same spectrum and cannot be possessed by one person.
Is your wife's attractive friend making big bucks ONLY because she's attractive, or has she never been turned down for a job because she is highly qualified.
I don't what you guys are talking about. All of the candidates are attractive, male or female.

To add a few to the list...
Lyle Weese at MSU. All American in XC, indoor and outdoor in consecutive seasons. Qualified for the last 2 Olympic trials.
Tom Raunig, who just retired as the UM coach. 2:11 marathon while at Athletics West.
Nicole Hunt, USATF mountain running champion.
Rita turned the job down.
Thank god for U of Montana. The administration and athletes dodged a big bullet. Some other poor group of men's athletes will get bossed around by a poor woman coach.
The process is getting VERY LATE.
What are the odds that the next candidate that they offer to turns it down?
My runners report in less that two weeks. Awful hard to pull up anchor and leave at that point unless you have nothing to hold you where you are at.
IF they offered the Job to her over DeWitt they were cracked or thinking with their nuts.

How could I forget to mention Nicole. She'd make an excellent coach, as would her husband Ray. She'll make an even better mom.
Another excellent University of Montana runner was Dave Gordon. Dave was a 27:xx 10K guy, who finished 4th in the 1984 Olympic Marathon Trials.
What are the odds that Freiss is offered/takes the job? Looks like they may have a solid team this year.
Not likely is my guess.

The signing of Marko Cheseto Lemtukei and Alfred Kangogo caps the 2008 recruiting class of UAA coach Michael Friess.
ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage cross country and track & field coach Michael Friess announced Tuesday the addition of two Kenyan runners to the Seawolf roster for the 2008-2009 season. Signing National Letters of Intent are Marko Cheseto Lemtukei and Alfred Kangogo, who will both compete in cross country and track at UAA.
“These two athletes will significantly improve our team and culminate perhaps our best recruiting class ever,” Friess said. “We certainly have potential. Now it comes down to us training correctly and building steadily towards the regional championships in November.”
Lemtukei, a graduate of Chewoyet High School in Kapenguria, Kenya, will have three years of eligibility with the Seawolves and will focus on running the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. He recently ran five kilometers at 6,000 feet elevation on a dirt track in 14 minute and 30 seconds.
Kangogo has range to run the 1,500 to 10,000 meters and will have four years of eligibility at UAA. The native of Eldoret, Kenya, recently clocked a time of 3:54 over 1,500 meters on the same track that Lemtukei ran his impressive 5K.
The UAA roster now features six runners from the East African nation known for its dominance in long-distance athletics.
The addition of the duo brings UAA's 2008-09 recruiting class total to 11, as they join previous signees Mychaela Bailey (Anchorage), Jaime Bronga (Anchorage), Will Estes (Anchorage), Thomas Hill (Thunder Bay, Ontario), Shoshana Keegan (Anchorage), Lauren Laichak (Anchorage), Jacob Parisien (Palmer), James Pettigrew (Melbourne, Australia) and Stephanie Trenholm (Campbell River, B.C.).
yea, the athletic department is a piece of shit there. Its f***ing terrible they would take this long to hire someone, when most of the recruits have given their commitments. Show how much class the schools athletic department has.
pathetic.
this guy must be an amazing recruiter to convince athletes from East Africa to come to Alaska? Talk about a change of environment. How many of them stay?
great recruiter? wrote:

well i am pretty sure a kid from the third world is going to go anywhere in the US on a full ride if they can get it!
If he is such a good recruiter then he should show what he can do at the d1 level where people will recognized the accomplishments. I had never heard of Alaska Anchorage before this. Montana would be better to be rewarded. Who knows if they will offer the guy?
