I was thinking about buying this product, but I wanted to get some second opinions before I buy it, how accurate is it?
Do you have to put in a constant length for stride or something?

I've had mine for a month. Great price, but there's a problem with the waterproofing. A lot of people have problems with water getting inside.
The distance measured is semi-accurate. I checked it at the track and got 96% accuracy, which is pretty good, but on other days I'll run the same course and get a different result. The pace function is not even remotely accurate, so you can't use it for that.
It's pretty good. Once you calibrate it, it seems to be accurate at that pace w/in 1 or 2 percent. If you run faster, it measures short, and slower, long, but you can take that into account pretty easily.
I have taken to wearing just the Sportband, with no other watch, when I'm just doing a straight distance run where I don't care about splits, etc.
So what all does the Sport Band do? I suppose it just keeps track of your mileage and time and then can calculate pace from there? It doesn't seem to be able to give you immediate feedback on how far you've gone or your pace, although I'm not really sure by looking at the picture and specs on nike's page. What features does it have for in run use?
It always tells me I've been running the same paces. According to the sportband, I always run 5:57,6:42, or 7:39 pace, never anything else. Something is pretty flawed with the algorithm that calculates pace, I'm guessing. Still, I didn't expect accurate pace info for $60, so that's not a big deal. I mostly bought it to check approximate route distances. The waterproofing problem is really bad, though. If it's humid out, or you get caught in the rain, you might find that your sportband is now a decorative bracelet. Hopefully they fix this in the next version.
The pace display does seem to have some issues. If you pause your run, it will show you what your most recent pace was, not your avg. to that point. Once you're finished, it tends to correct that, however, and it seems to work on the move.
I haven't had any water issues yet (knock wood) and I'm a pretty heavy sweater.
so the nike sportband tells you distance run, pace, and total time spent running. unfortunately,
-the distance is inaccurate unless you run at the exact pace at which you calibrated it
-the pace is off, only giving a few possible paces, none of which you may have even run
so basically it's a chronograph that can't take splits. that is, unless it gets a bit wet, then it's just a bad ass plastic band around your arm with a nike logo on it.
not bad for a $60 piece of shit. for the same money you can get a legit watch and do some mental math to figure out your pace. why would i pay for a device that gives me false data?
You don't get results where it tells you you're always running exactly the same paces after uploading your run? Maybe that's just mine. It's odd, because the distance measuring seems to be relatively accurate (96% or better checked on a track,) but the pace info is not.
Good luck with the waterproofing. I don't mind the bad pace data so much (I didn't expect pace accuracy in the first place,) but the fact that it can't even hold up to heavy sweating and light rain is pretty inexcusable.
i got one for free at a coaching clinic. they were really hyping it up big time. my question is: why would nike go live with something that doesn't provide useful information and can't hold up to the activity it's designed for? don't they have people to test their stuff?
its suckage doesn't really bother me because i didn't pay for it. i'd be pissed off if i did.
the other thing about it: you have to wear nike shoes. ugh.
The aftermarket lace holders work with non Nike+ shoes. Here's a thread about the waterproofing problem:
Actually...you don't have to wear Nike shoes. There are many after market devices that will hold the chip securely with whatever YOUR favorite brand/style might be. Also, no matter what negative experiences that you've had with Nike footwear previously(and I agree, they've had some dogs), they actually do have some current product which has been highly effective for serious runners. Good luck.
