For the price the 2130's are a great shoe. Kayanos are not worth it i had one pair and never bought them again.
Can't go wrong with the 2130s, I've worn them (2100s) for the past 5 years. They've been great. The new models actually have nice colors now. Which is a big step since all previous models (IMO) were absolutely ugly.
I've always wondered about the Kayanos. Maybe someone can shed some light on them, do they have better cushioning than the 2130s? Or what makes them more expensive?
The Kayano is just a plush version of the 2130, more cushioning and a better-fitting upper. They actually have nearly identical posting, so the stability is about the same. The 2130 is like $40 less. No way is the Kayano worth the extra money, in my opinion. I work at a running store so I know what I'm talking about.
I am just like the others here I have used 21xx for about 5 years and got Kayano's once. They were a good shoe but I was surprised that they wore out faster than the 21xx. It may have been that I was dragging my feet that month or two but they did not last well at all. I did not think that they fit better or were more comfortable than the 21xx either.
I have worn the Kayanos for about 3 years now and they're the reason for me being able to avoid shin pain. I actually stopped wearing my orthotics because they work so well for me. I am tempted to try 2130s but when something works so well it's hard to switch because of $. I also work at a running shoe store and I think the cushioning is a little better and the posting is just a bit more stable. 2130 is the most sold shoe here because of the best bang for your buck. But I think the Kayano has been worth the money to me.
I'd go with these:

Not quite as much protection as the Kayano, a bit heavier than the 2130s but for me they give the best of both world's.
Thanks a ton! I feel much better because I just got the GT 2130s after a few seasons w/ Kayanos.
Gel 3000s are also more stable and way stiffer than 2130s and Kayanos. Not really a comparable shoe.
I always buy last year's models of the GT 21xx at closeout.
I just bought 2 pair of GT-2120s for $37 from Sierra Trading Post.
They were on closeout for $63 pair, I checked the page everyday until they went on sale for $47. I used the 20% for $75+ coupon code for is in the catalogs and posted all over the net.
I probably should have bought 4 pair, but I still had some new 2110s sitting in boxes.
The best Asics shoe in my opinion is the Empire. Not as expensive as the Kayano, but tighter and more stable than the 2130.
Obviously it's about your feet and your stride, but that's my two cents.
I have used the 20xx/21xx models for the last 4-5 years and found them to be awesome. I think the structure must have subtly changed over time as it was either the 2070 or 2080 that was just glove-like on the feet, the updated ones are still great but just not quite like the older models.
Tried the Kayano's once and quite frankly found them disappointing. Just did not feel comfortable running in them for whatever reason. I have narrow feet so maybe width is an issue?
Also use the 3000's as well now keeping two pairs on the go. Have no problems with them, probably more suited to steady or easy running than faster work.
Mix the 3000s with a pair of DS Trainers
i definitly prefer the 2130's since ive been in them since the 2080's. whats the deal with the new 3000's? anyone have and thoughts on how they compare to the 2130's?
This about sums it up as posted earlier:

If you want something fairly responsive stick with the 2130. If you want more cushioning and stability go 3000. Not a bad call from Moonracer to wear the 3000s for miles and DS Trainer for faster running.
