2002 Chicago Marathon is an American Record forthcoming?

The acutal quote:

"Deena is running with the best in the world," says Vigil, an exercise physiologist. "She could set the American record in Chicago. Deena can improve 4, 5, 6% yet if she's willing to pay the price. I've never seen a more consistent trainer."

Vigil didn't say what year Deena could set the American record at Chicago.....

I think that Coach Vigil is a wonderful coach and I don't believe that he is predicting at all. I believe he is coaching. Drossin had a terrible performance (it is all relative) at Rock n Roll as did her teammates. I believe that Coach Vigil is trying to get Deena to believe that she is ready. I think that Deena is tired and I don't expect a lot from her this weekend. I also believe that this is an off year and Deena is awesome and Coach Vigil wanted to see exactly how hard he could push her for the future. I hope I am wrong. I believe that Deena is the future.

Vipam, let me tell you what it takes for an AR. If you can't say first, you can't do it. These things just don't happen in a void. They've already been rehearsed over and over in her mind. Once the mind has been focused and if the day is right, she'll know it and then just go out and do it. Just like running on air...

29 years old and the 20003 and 2004 season has MAJOR

championship races, it is very safe to say Coach V meant

this year. Deena is very capable of running faster than 2:21:21 at Chicago this year if everything clicks right on October 13.

Deena knew she was tired and stopped her track season to focus on Chicago. I think it was a good move and will pay off big time. Deena's a damn hard worker but she's also bright. She's focused. She knows she can do it. Self confidence is a wonderful thing.

One more thing. Joan is going to be there this year because she knows her record is going down.

I hope you are right and I'm wrong.

PC-Joan is always there to do color on the TV broadcast. She just decided she wanted to run this year.

But I think she's running this year because she knows her record is going to fall. Sort of like retired players showing up at games when their records are set to be broken.

You could be right, although she may have run last year if she weren't running New York to get an OT qualifier. I'm glad to see she's running from a fan perspective because it will be great to see her out on the road, and from a TV viewer perspective (I'll watch the tape when I get home) because she is still a much better runner than TV commentator.

There are some people who just dont belong behind a mike, shes one of them.
