I have been slowly moving my mileage up by about 5 miles each week for the past month, getting up to 60 this week. I just found out that some of my teammates are already up to 80, because they pushed early on. They won't go any higher than 90. I am wondering if it's worth it for me to try to ramp my mileage up to 80 in one week or two weeks (70-80 or 80-80 next two weeks). Does anyone have any recommendations on how quickly it is safe for me to jump up? I will be a college senior, and I want to really put in a great summer, but I don't want to get greedy and hurt myself. Right now my weeks have looked like this.
M- 7 miles
T- 9 miles
W- 9 miles
T- 9 miles
F- 5 miles
S- 9 miles
S- 12 miles (7 AM, 5 PM)
Yes, I realize this week lacks a long run.
Does anyone here have experience with jumping up 20ish mpw? Do I just need to suck it up and push my limits, or should I keep going at the pace I'm going? I haven't been super tired, so I know I can do more, and I've spent a few consecutive weeks at 75-80 in the past, but that was back in early XC last year. What do y'all think?
