no, there is no magic workout, but it's not just hard work that's making him good - it's smart, effective, efficient work (indicated by his massive improvement in short time). That's why we're wondering what he does - What is his smart work? So of course he is doing something different than the 930 or 420 guys. Could just be consistency, but it could be something about his training.
Ummmm ... no.
He ran 4:22 as a freshman off of ZERO systemaic training. I think Alan Webb has nearly the freshman record for the 1600 (4:20) ... a few have gone faster but not many.
He definitely had the soph. mile record (4:06).
Massive improvement? I would expect 10 seconds improvement per year in the 1600 whether a kid has worked hard or not. It is not unusual to see a HS kid go 5:00, then 4:45 in 10th grade. Or a really good kid go 4:35 then 4:25.
His improvement curve is actually less steep than normal ... because he started at the superhuman level.
He is going to have to stop breaking himself though ... and give up all other sports.
