If you score Colorado v. Western State, doesn't it add up to a 29-30 win Western.
WSU: 3,4,6,7,9 = 29
CU= 1,2,5,8,14 = 30
To me thats a Western State win, 29-30.
So I guess Western is the best team in the nation right now, period, regardless of Division
In addition, even if Western's guys didn't count in the scroing because of a technically or something, still, Western proved to be better.
WSU: 3+4+6+7+9= 29
CU: 1+2+5+8+12= 28
Severy finished in 12th for team scoring because on this planet, a team's (in this case, WSC's) 8th and 9th men are not counted for team scoring.
You can only count 7 runners for western. So CU does win, and at the end of the year, Cu would kill them. Plus CU isn't the best team in the land.
Tim
It's top 7 vs. top 7. CU won in that format.
why would you take away two runners? Every one thats allowed to race should count. show some respect when you say it would be a different result at the end of the year, your talking about a team that has one d2 3 straight years. i would say they know how to run at the right time.
Welcome to planet earth, this is how we score cross country in the NCAA here. Top 7 for each team are all that count.
Sorry but Scott Larsen only ran 24:42 back in 1997. Don't get me wrong, this time is impressive, just not 24:20.
Watching the meet today was impressive. Jorge is the real deal. His race was a thing of beauty on the tough altitude course.
Some confusion in the scoring though. As a spectator it was surprising to find that CU won by one point, since Western placed 9 runners in front of CU's 5th man. Most of us assumed they were scoring on the Conference system of 9 runners count in team scoring since it was unlimited entries.
It was funny too, how many spectators thought Western was peaking for the race, with their dominance up front. In reality most of Western's runners are completing yet another 100+ mile week in the thin air of Gunni. But it was sweet for those of us who know that Western runners sleep four to a room, pay for their own shoes, pitch in for airfare to sea level meets, and gracefully accept their 1 pt "loss".
Very well said spectator. The top guys at western are running about 100 miles a week, that includes this week. We see how they go out there and run some amazing workouts week in and out. If anything they where tired for the meet. All in all if you count everyone who ran, which they where allowed to run, western won the meet. Thanks for all the support.
Props to Josh Eberly and my brother Chris Siemers for showing the courage to run against the "big boys" while putting in over 100 miles at 7800 ft. Watch out DII Kenyans!!! Western is on a roll....
and I as well as everyone else knows, CU is also running that much. But it did bring back some flashbacks to the 1998 Illinois State High School Meet, minus Don Sage.
They are seriously lacking for a 4th and 5th man. No way they can beat Stanford or Alamama. When a DII school puts 9 guys in front of your number 5, you can forget about a national title.
I agree with you that CU will not win the national title, but just because a "D II" school beat them, doesn't mean anything. If you were educated on the subject, you would realize that Western is one of the top programs, year in, year out, regardless of division. Division has nothing to do with running fast. So get over your love affair with division one. Western is the real deal and any of the CU guys would be happy to back me up on this I'm sure.
I don't care how many DII titles Western has won. When any team places nine in front of the defending national champions that is not a good sign. I agree colorado looks like they need some people to step up.
i think if the redshirted scott nagelkerke ran he wouldve placed right with siermers or so. Wasnt he their third man last year? What are his track Pr's ?Im pretty sure i saw him run 14 low at reggie last winter.
