Its their best recruit in recent memory (Kosgei was not a recruit he was simply placed there by an organization that places academic kenyans at random among various elite institutions). However this will not get Hamilton to nationals as a team, not even if they were in the South.
That being said if this kid can run a half decent 1200 leg on the DMR, with Kosgei splitting close to 4 minutes they might be able to do something, but that would require this kid to run close to 3 minutes.

Are there any other recruiting classes people would like to share?
wow AC Slater strikes again.
maybe meliss paid him to do it.
seriously though, look for anything to happen in the atlantic region this year. hopefully the committee will get it right and award 3 at-large bids to the atlantic region teams this coming year.
wonder what happened last year, i heard it had something to do with donuts during the selection committee discussion....
Does the Atlantic region have 5 deserving teams this year, I mean it will take until mid season to see for sure based on the other reasons but the only sure team I can think of is Cortland. NYU looses a ton, so i would not consider them a top national team, this could easily be a 1 at large year for the region.
maybe by default then the midwest can get like 8 teams in????
just take all of the bids, auto and at-large, away from the south and the west, and give them to atlantic, mideast, and midwest.
Everyone is all about the midwest, but really they are not all that strong any more, especially at the front. I know this will provoke some discussion, but I think its true, yes the 6th team from the MW is usually better than even the 1st from the south, the same is true for women in the northeast, but I think the other regions are starting to get stronger. I think the top 35 rankings this year will be much more spread out with the exception of the west which is going to have a down year after 2-3 strongish years.
MW will have 6-7 as will the northeast, Atlantic will not be as strong as before but will still have 4+, the Mid east will have 3-4, south 2-3, west 1-2, central 3-4.
Giving the south "2-3" spots is generous...
The midwest will have 3 out of the top 5 teams. Mark my words.
South is terrible. Emory would have finished like, 15th in the MW.

Who are you thinking here? UW-La Crosee and UW-Stevens Point are good guesses to hit top 5. Are you thinking North Central will make a big comeback? Or Oshkosh?

out of 32 teams at nationals:
south- 2 teams- 30th and 32nd
midwest- all 5 in top 16
you're right. the midwest is not all that strong anymore.
what do you think about the great lakes region?
Here is the thing, anymore, does not refer to last year it refers to this year, that is why this is a prediction thread. As for the south 2-3 being generous, they get 2 automatically and I do not think predicting 1 at large is significantly generous. I do not think 3/5 will be MW, I think perhaps 1 will be, 2 at most, I think 3/5 maybe 3/6 will be east coast teams, out of the NE, ME and Atlantic. I think Cortland is your number 1 team, Carnegie thinks they are the shit, and perhaps they are, and the Northeast has a number of very talented teams.
From the ME Region, though Haverford loses a bunch I think they are a lock to make it. On the other end of the spectrum, Dickinson should be even better this year, losing two guys from the top seven, but their returners ran some very good times on the track(Karwoski 14:40). Don't know too much about CMU and Allegheny, but CMU is returning all but 1 guy so they should be a lock. Allegheny loses 3 but had solid 6 and 7 guys , so I bet they're good again too. Same 4 probably make it again. Muhlenberg(everyone back) will be a strong team too, potentially along with Hopkins.

He referred to the South thing being 2-3 in the NCAA rankings, not the NCAA results. But yeah, they do get two for free like everyone else. I disagree with you though, one at-large is indeed generous for the South. Last year their best team Texas Southern placed third, one point behind two teams tied for first which upset them, and they were not selected (and rightfully so I think.) One of those tying teams, Rhodes, loses just about everybody from last year so forget 'em. The South (or any region looking to get an at-large bid or bids) needs to show it can compete with stronger region's teams by going to their invites over fall break and beating them, as intra-region competition at the last meet before conference is part of the selection criteria. So far some Southern teams have tried this but none have been at all successful at actually beating any strong (read: NCAA qualifying) teams from the other regions. Since the south is known as weak, it seems the burden of proof is on them, they won't get any benefit of the doubt selections until they actually knock off teams from other regions.
Apparently (according to the western poster on this thread) the West is on the skids as well. Typically the six other regions are always given four teams with a fifth selection going to the Midwest, Central, and the rest given to either the Atlantic and New England (or both if there's enough left.) I run in the Central and I have doubts as to whether the Central will deserve a 5th selection this year though. Maybe the Mid-East or Great Lakes will step up? I do not really have any knowledge of who the teams are in those regions, other than Calvin being perennial Lakes region winners.
Not sure why I said Texas Southern there. Texas-Tyler was the team from the south that lost by a point.
