why would he be joking??? he's given the best answer so far... it's pretty common for a hs kid to run sub-60 with no training...
in my defense, most kids coming into HS and running 57s have not been being lazy college kids for the last four years. Between gym, running around with friends, camps, little league, Y league basketball, etc, I was much more active on a regular basis in middle school than even "staying active" throughout college.
anyway, onto the time trial. I did a pretty abbreviated warmup: two laps and the basic stretches, some leg swings and that's it. I felt pretty good though, a little "empty" since I hadn't eaten in like 6 hours, but I figured it wouldn't matter too much for a 400. Weather was cool, but good for a race, and a bit of a headwind on the home stretch.
My splits (taken by myself) were: 14.2, 14.6, 14.8, 16.0. Total 59.6
Obviously a huge lack of fitness to carry me through the end, and I went out conservatively, so maybe I could have gained a little bit of time at the beginning, but probably not. All and all not terrible.
If I start training again I think I'd want to move up to the 8 or mile, but we'll see where a summer of malmo gets me, and how much speed I can gain back from that.
Thanks for guessing!
