the question is basically in the title. this summer in preparation for next fall's cross country season i want to include some weight training. i plan on eventually getting in the 105-110 mpw range, with some doubles, etc. i want to do every single thing i possibly can to improve, and this is one area which i have absolutely no clue on how to proceed.
for a long distance runner doing that kind of mileage, what do you recommed in the way of weight training? i have access to two fully equpped gyms, so really anything is possible.
also, is there a particular core workout that is accepted as the best for long distance runners/xc runners?
i think i've got the running part down, but i don't want to waste any energy - seeing as there will be precious little to spare - doing core exercises and lifting weights that are not going to help me. i'd love to know what has worked for you - i know there are some pretty experienced coaches on here - what kind of weight program do you recommend? what do pro's do?
i've done some research but it's unreliable. i have running for a while and have tried various lifting/core circuits but fear that i may not have been doing anything which will actually help me to race 3.1, 4.9, and 6.2 miles next year...any help or advice is very much appreciated!
