Ok since I was younger I have always dreamed of one day qualifying for the Olympic trials marathon. Another one of my dreams has also been to compete in an Ironman Triathlon. I have only been running for about 3 years now though. Got injured younger so I kinda had to start completely over a few years back. Anyways, I've really only maintained an average of about 75 miles a week for a little over a year now with a peak week at 114. A lot of weeks over 100 actually. Off this training, my PR has gone from 3:40 in my first marathon to 2:34 now. I know it's a long ways to 2:19 as many of you will point out. Here's the question though: If I focused on doing an Ironman for the next year but still maintained about 70 mpw running would I lose any of the speed I've worked to get to? Meaning if two years from now I go to run another marathon will I still be a 2:34ish guy? Will I be slower or maybe faster?
