Hello, I plan on running a 1-mile road race on September 20th, but not sure how to train. I’m very slow right now, but I'm ready to work hard to get faster.
About me: 38, female. I have been running for several years, for ‘fitness.’ I’m a petite runner, with minimal strength and muscle definition. Last two races: 3:40 (marathon), 31:02 (4 miles). I am running about 35 miles per week, no speed workout, but I pick up the pace whenever I can on my training runs.
My goal: 6 minutes for the mile…I’ve never been timed at the distance, but I understand that, based on my race results, I am far from my goal. Still, if I follow a good training plan and start doing speed work, do you think I have a chance at running 6:00? And what kind of plan should I follow to reach my goal in September?
