and yet one more vote for NB 790. i run in them for everything from short jogs to 50-mile races and from rails-to-trails paths to rocky mountain races.

What's the sizing like in teh NB 790? I wear a 9 1/2 in Nikes, would it be the same for the NB 790?
i have to size up one-half size in NB 790 (i usually wear W6.5, but need W7 in NB 790).
also, as another poster said s/he does, i also replace the flat-as-a-pancake insole with those from another pair of shoes, since i know i need a little something under my arch when logging a lot of miles.

and some references to Inov8 trail shoes.
Have never tried them. Some seem to like them.
the innovates are minimal, but not as light as the NB 790s another flats. But a good durable compromise.
I just got a pair of the NB 800's
I really like them for trails. Fit me like a glove. Which helps on downhills. And their tread is a bit more aggressive than the 790s. The rest of the shoe is the same though.
another 790 user here, i think they are the best trail shoe ever made

Anyone use Nike Free's?
I sometimes use the frees on trails but not normally because stuff gets caught in the bottom of them real easily and it gets quite annoying.
Prefer I-nov-8's, Mudrocks and Mudclaws for the nasty stuff. 250's were conditions are drier.
But the recurent theme suporting NB's790's lead me to want to try a pair.
Krupicka is a pretty heavyweight endorsement.
Frees are OK for training, but the heel is a bit too free for race pace or singletrack.
Puma Trailfox. Great shoe.
will have to check them out, at least in the store... That's a lot of positive feedback.

Nike Free 5.0 100% of the time....trails, roads, etc. Yes, stuff can get caught in them, but that's the price you pay for the superb forefoot flexibility.

I wear The North Face Arnuva Boa's because that is what Dean Karnazes wears and, to me, he is the best ultra runner of all time.
Another vote for the 790s. In comparison, I use Adizero RC on roads.
put me in the 790 column
used the Piranha for a trail 50K and they were great but don't last
Hyperspeed II for the roads.

I second the Asic Piranhas. I won a rainy/wet/muddy trail race in them and everyone thought I was crazy. The only other person to wear non-trail shoes was the female overall woman.
