Ok, I have not been able to race since November for reasons not related to running. It looks like that I will be able to race a 10K on sunday, June 15th.
This came as a bit of a surprise and I have not been doing the workouts to race specifically. I have been running very consistantly this year. Aside from one week in early January when I had a stomach flu I have run at least 52 miles every week this year with the top being 67 and my average around 60. For the last 6 weeks or so I have been doing periodic speed workouts in the form of structured fartleks:
-one a week of 2 times 1 minute at ~3K pace with one minute active rest then 10 times 2 minutes at ~10K pace and then two minutes active rest
-and about once every other week I will do 12 times one minute at ~5K pace then one minute off.
I have frequently, about once every other week, done timed 1KM repeats with my times being between 3:20 and 3:29.
I have not specifically done tempo runs but I have a lot of 10 mile runs that end up as tempo runs at the end. I.e., I will start at about 7:30 pace, progressively pick up the pace as I go, and end up running the last 3 miles or so in about 6:20 to 6:15 pace.
What does the running community here think that I may end up doing in a 10K?
What can I do to sharpen in this short period of time?
