I aree there are some great runners at Ohio State, but nationally, the best were at Stanford. The Jesse Owens meet had very, very strong winds. It's a great Midwest distance spot (and perhaps unlucky with weather), but they'll never come close to Stanford or Mt. Sac.
Yeah, I mean take the 1500m @ Stanford for example...this was the most hype event at the meet--with Sully, Symmonds, Lukezic, Lomong, Teg, Brown, Solinsky--many thought that it was going to be a fast one, and why shouldn't it have been? The field was loaded!!
And then the fastest time was 3:39! Sigh...
See ran 3:40 in the very, very strong winds that you mentioned. Olinger won the Steeple pretty easily and faster than Stanford.
I mean, the 5k/10k were pretty obviously going to be faster with Lagat & Buster there.
But overall, some of the Midwest guys should have spared themselves a plan trip to the West Coast and ran faster or as fast close to home.
No need for you to point out how "elite" Stanford was. Jesse Owens was a very nice event--even with the annual weather.
