A few years ago, I had a wicked chest cold that nearly killed all my training for a week leading up to a 12K. I struggled through a run a few days out, rested 3 days, ran when I started feeling better, then rested 2 days before the race.
I nailed the 12K. I even got an asterisk next to my name in the results for exceeding my age standard (I was 49). I never got one of those before, and I haven't since. Go figure.
Anyway, take what fate has given you, don't worry and regard that time off as an opportunity to get your fresh legs back. Maybe there's no scientific studies that would back me up, but if you truly believe it, it will be so.
