I'm trying to decide what shoes to wear in an upcoming 10 mile race. Do you think that the Mayfly are less responsive than the Hyperspeed 2 since they are pretty soft?
Please let me know your thoughts.

I understand the fear, or at least expectation that you expressed about the Mayfly. But for a 10 mile race it surely does not matter. I have had friends wear mayflys in 5k track races. So I say base your decision on another factor. Personally I'd much rather run a 10 mile race in Hyperspeeds and do a 5k road race in mayflys. That's just me.
No joke, My housemate and I did a track workout today. We have similar PR's, and he wore the Mayfly's while i wore the original Hyperspeeds . We did 12x 300 meters and on the last two he pulled away and dropped me. However, he had to duck tape the Mayfly's after the workout bc of a rip. So your best bet is to go with the Hypersppeds. Your Mayfly'z may fall apart during the race.
I tend to take the minimalist view, and wear racers / very lightweight trainers for all my running. But I still wouldn't wear the Mayfly for anything over 5k. I've run 10k in them, and my calves went dead with a few minutes left to run. That said, I train in Hyperspeed and wouldn't race in them. The compromise option is the Nike Vaporfly. Very light, but more resilient and supportive than the Mayfly. They'v got me round a couple of 1/2 marathons with no problem. But I guess you're not asking about them....
