I agree but I must admit, she looked so different from the way she used to run, I almost didn't recognize her. She used to run upright but today she was running with such a pronounced forward lean, I figured something must be wrong. Of course, we all know it wasn't.
I guess it's just what time has done to her. On the other hand, she still kicked ass.
She seems like she leads a very balanced life--family, work, running. How cool that she's achieved her dream.

In a way, while not exactly the same, Davilla's race was reminiscent of Brian Sell's '04 Trials effort in Birmingham. A race from someone on the way up who bit off just slightly more than they could chew.
Had she run a safer race, like her teammate McMahon, she may have finished 4th-8th or so but she tried to take a shot at a tough point in the race and paid for it.
Hopefully her career trajectory will follow Sell's from here.
Great job Jag!!
Letsrun poster Jag had a solid race.
Here's an incredible story. 15th place, Sheri Peters from Falmouth, Maine. Mother of five, ran 3:23 just four years ago...
"The year of the last Women’s Olympic Trials, Sheri Piers was making her marathon debut in 3:23:19 at the Maine Marathon. Since then she has sliced nearly 40 minutes from that time, having run 2:45:37 at the 2007 Philadelphia Marathon to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Trials. In college, Piers was actually a basketball player, helping Saint Joseph's College make three trips to the NCAA Division III national tournament. She is the school's second all-time leader in assists, and ranks ninth all-time in three-point field goals."
Personal Notes:
Piers graduated from Saint Joseph's College with a degree in nursing. She earned her masters in nursing in 1997 from Simmons College. She and her husband, Wayne, live in Falmouth, ME, and have five children: Ashton, Taylor, Conner, Noah, and Karley.

the other girls are simply longshots to do anything. maybe a top 15-20 finish if they run smart, conservative races and everyone else dies in the heat/smog. but realisitically, they're biggest achievement was making the team today. this shouldn't be read as an insult - they ran great races today - but they're just not at the top of the world. (about 60 different women have run under 2:30 so far this year; granted all won't be there b/c there are many from japan, ethiopia, and kenya, but you see where they stack up.)
If there was a little more than 4 months till Beijing I would not put a top 10 past Magdalena. She has more in her than a 2:30. The way she ran the race today is not how you get your best time. The mental toughness of this girl is something else. She has basically trained 2 years with a singular focus on today's race, and now with the boost of qualifying she could do great things if given more time to train. Even without that time she'll do very well in Beijing. For one, I don't think she did much altitude training this winter - but now I'd expect she's off to the mountains for a couple of months.

29 years ago she was wearing a BoSox cap when she was a surprising winner of Boston as a Bowdoin student.

Megan Hepp ran a negative split on the back half to finish 12th. 2:37:29, she isn't even sponsored by anyone and beat all but one Hanson's girl. Not to shabby for a marathon rookie basically.
Big Up's!!!
Alyanak does not have a significant sponsor as far as I know and was 7th!! 2:34
Top three finish video is up if interested.
What is her name, or time and place?
Agreed 100%
She definately has a lot more in her tan 2:30
And yes, she is one very TOUGH competitor!
Extremely positive person, but also carries a lot of mental TOUGHNESS.
Congrats Magda!
I don't believe Lewy Boulet is sponsored either. By choice, I assume.

Magda ran an amazing race. We were standing around the 5, 11, 17, 23 marker which is also about a half mile before that too. When we (my wife and I) saw Magda come around the turn in first on the first loop (around 4.5 miles) we were both like "WOW I hope she can hang on for a spot". The last time we saw her was 23 miles and she was STILL in first we were like "WOW I hope she can win". This was definately the race of her career. Congrats to Magda, we were the first crazy people shouting your name out there. By the end everyone knew your name. Funny hearing the Boston people out here trying to say her name.

Magdalena is "sponsored" by her husband's running store Transports. She gets whatever Adidas stuff she needs, but beyond that I don't think she has an actual sponsorship. I've never seen her in ads for Adidas and it seems like she's 100% in charge of how much and where she races.
Here is Magda's interview from last month on Flo-Track.
She also touches upon coach Jack Daniels and her training.

Congrats, Jag. Way to represent us Okies. Any other Okies make it to the Trials - men or women?
would you want this board to know your name if you were a young woman?

Ann Alyanak ran with the RUNOHIO/Second Sole club that won the USATF Club Cross Country Championships last December is Cincinnati. She finished third on the team behind teammates Leigh Daniels and Tara Storage.
I think she is getting Brooks stuff. But I do not know if she is getting any money.
