Deena is such a class act.
OK, so what are our gals' chances in Beijing? Deena seems to have mastered--as close as one can--the distance. Thoughts?

Wartburg College women (Iowa) in 9th and 10th.
Great finish for University of Dayton's Flyers coach Ann Alyanak! Congrats to Ann!
and Luther (Iowa) in 6th.
all 3 are from CA
I think Deena will medal. She and her coach seems to be masters at peaking, not withstanding the issues she had in Boston last year.

Shall we put to rest the argument "Best place to train?"

I agree with you. Very gracious.
2 out of the top 4 are products of the california community college system
For those interested, ZAP girls: Caroline Cretti 23rd in 2:40:20, Caitlin Tormey 25th 2:40:57. PR's for both.

deena will be in contention for a medal; conditions will be brutal, but she was great in crappy conditions in athens. i'd expect that the chinese and japanese runners will have a slight advantage though.
the other girls are simply longshots to do anything. maybe a top 15-20 finish if they run smart, conservative races and everyone else dies in the heat/smog. but realisitically, they're biggest achievement was making the team today. this shouldn't be read as an insult - they ran great races today - but they're just not at the top of the world. (about 60 different women have run under 2:30 so far this year; granted all won't be there b/c there are many from japan, ethiopia, and kenya, but you see where they stack up.)
